In other Thursday night ratings, Survivor scored a 16.6 broadcast rating (27.4 share), Friends scored a 10.9 broadcast rating (18.7 share), and the Toronto Raptors/NY Knicks NBA playoff game scored a 2.1 cable rating (3.4 share). **Some are saying that you shouldn't expect Stone Cold Steven Austin to remain a heel too long. In fact, at this year's Summerslam you could see the Rattlesnake revert back to being a fan favorite. **Simon Diamond and Dawn Marie have cancelled upcoming indy dates saying that they have signed WWF developmental contracts. Expect them to spend a lot of time in Memphis, where Dawn claimed they are currently only on a two week stay. **The Rock missed a day of filming for the "Scorpion King" due to a bout of food poisoning. **If it is indeed decided that WCW wrestlers would interfere in Big Show and Shane McMahon's at Backlash, look for Mike Awesome or Booker T to be the ones. However, rumor has just come up that the WWF are planning to have Billy Gunn get involved in this angle, so that he can be transferred to the new WCW. If Booker T appears at Backlash tomorrow, he would have had to sign off from Time Warner, and signed with WWFE today. However, no such news has come out. If there is any involvement at Backlash, it would be from one of the 24 contracted wrestlers or a WWF wrestler who would be transferred to the new WCW. Some sources suggest that there is a possibility of Test to get involved. We will just have to wait and see. **Jim Ross had a one-on-one meeting with Rob Van Dam this week. Though no deal was offered to RVD, this meeting shows that the WWF is interested in RVD, which they weren't before. (Cred: ultimowrestling) _______________ [News from WCW] **Everyone knows by now that Sting has decided to retire from wrestling. However, recently rumors have come up that Hulk Hogan, Sting and Jimmy Hart are talking about starting a new promotion. If all this works out, look for Sting to have a role in booking and development, rather than actual television wrestling. **The only wrestlers (apart from the 24 whose contracts were purchased) the WWF has shown interest in are Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. Their names were discussed in the recent meetings undertaken by the WWF, and the futures of these two wrestlers seem bright in the new WCW. **According to unconfirmed reports some of the Ohio Valley Wrestling talent would be added the new WCW. Mark Henry and Eric Angle may well be the ones to get a nod ahead in the new WCW. **Ric Flair has stated that though he hasn't yet been contacted by the WWF, nor he has been relieved from his AOL Time Warner contract, he hopes he does get a chance again in the WWF. According to sources, Flair wants nothing more than working with The Rock. To read it, http://www.canoe.ca/SlamWrestling/hitman_home.html (Cred: ultimowrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Rounding The Squared Circle - By Sam Jerry "IF HE KISSES YOU, IT'S LOVE" OR "RELAX AND ENJOY IT - IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE" Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed an increase in the number of columns complaining about what The WWF is giving us. Some of the things I see are: not enough "wrestling," things are too predictable, McMahon-athons, and too many title changes. It may or not be significant but they started right after WCW's funeral. None of these are new. We have all seen this stuff before. Citing we need more "scientific wrestling" matches like a long Benoit v. Jericho match, the nay sayers think it is what most people want. I don't know what most people want, but judging from the crowds we see on RAW and SmackDown, the fans are getting what they want. This week the WWF held both in Denver. Both were sellouts and the fans were totally into the action. This is the norm no matter what the venue is. The WWF sell outs virtually every show, televised and non- televised. In fact, many sell out in hours. During the shows this week, they mentioned sellouts of upcoming shows in less than an hour! Having attended many shows, I can say first hand that the crowd was into the action. Not every match was as good as I might have liked, but I certainly wasn't disappointed. The "scientific match" question reminds me of the old argument about baseball. Some people like close 1-0, 2-1 pitchers duels; other like games with a lot of runs being scored. The Lords of Baseball try to gauge what the fans want and do what they can to comply. If they think Home Runs and high scoring games are what the fans want, they do such things as make the strike zone smaller and change the dimensions of the fields. When Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were both shooting for the season Home Run record, runs were what the fans wanted. This season the strike zone was enlarged in an effort to cut back on the number of runs being scored. Wrestling is not much different. If and when Emperor McMahon sees a need to move towards more "scientific matches," we will see them. He can't make much money unless he gives us what we want. Right now he is giving us what most of us apparently want. Of course we'll see the occasional "wrestling" match, so the reaction can be gauged. Sometimes we tend to over analyze wrestling. Why did a Title change hands when it did? Why did a Title change so fast? Topics like that are fun to knock around, but not worth kicking the dog and punching the wall over. The sun will still come up tomorrow, although with SCSA playing kissy face with Emperor McMahon, it now rises in the west and sets in the east. Relax and enjoy wrestling, rather than spend so much time and energy looking at the negatives. I found that watching without thinking what I might write about made watching more fun. WCW got into trouble when it stopped being fun to watch. People stayed away in droves. ECW was great to watch; I will never stop missing it. The WWF is fun to watch. If and when that changes, the fans in the arenas will let them know. I think The Emperor is astute enough to spot that if and when it happens. When the WWF comes to Orlando, they sell out every show. I can tell you there are an awful lot of other things to do in Orlando besides wrestling, so they must be doing something right. In my never ending quest to find the WCW MIAs, I have located a few more: The cracker jack NITRO / Thunder Production Team - They are now working for El Kabong, beloved Dictator of San Slobador. As everyone knows, San Slobador is an up-and-coming fourth world mud hole in Central America. Who better to help change the worlds opinion of San Slobador from "pimple on the asshole of progress" than the WCW Production Team? Good luck guys. Mike Awesome - While waiting to hear from The WWF, he has been wrestling in Japan under the name McGoldberg. He is getting by on two moves: The "McSpear" and the "McJackhammer." The promotion says he is unbeaten in his first 2,768 McMatches. I spoke to McGoldberg and he said aside from wanting to go to The WWF, he would like to fight Stone Cold Sookiaki Ausado, the Champion of a rival Fed. Dirtbag Doophus Page - He is no longer working in Las Vegas as last reported. He is now in the Midwest fighting the floods, using the knowledge he gained in the sewers of Las Vegas. He is collecting cow plops to help stem the rising waters. Yes, our boy is doing what he does best: shoveling shit against the tide. You would think that with the WWF the only thing on, that they would try to get former WCW people interested in their programming. Instead, they have bored everyone and this week is no exception. The biggest screw job was on Heat!? With triple H and Austin being told that they would have to defend their belts at Backlash. Then the other screw jobs were Matt hardy winning the European Title from Eddie Guerero and Taker and Kane attacking Austin and Triple H when they were supposed to be fighting Kaintei. So with that I have no other choice but to make this weeks winner... ...The WWF's Writers! This weeks TV was pathetic. I think this is the worst buildup for a PPV in a long time. It's hard to believe that with all the newly signed talent from ECW and the WCW talent that this is the best the WWF can come up with. Hopefully the WWF writers will make things better soon, but at this point, they get the award.
