This week, Lawler talks about the book he's currently writing, rumours started on the Mancow radio show, recent Internet rumours regarding Chyna, Stacey in Playboy, and more. To read the article, http://www.kinglawler.com/statement042601.html ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **4/26 WWF Smackdown scored a below average 4.4 overnight rating, with a 7 share. The final rating, which should be somewhere in the mid to high 3's, will be in tomorrow's edition. **Big show comments on Kaentai and more: Regarding his comments on Raw about Kaientai, he said the honest truth was that he said "goofs". He said the people in the truck bleeped it because they thought he said something else. He said the bleep made it sound worse. He said he would never insult Kaientai or anyone in that way. He said that he sometimes talks like he has marbles in his mouth, and the people in the truck misheard him. He said he has more class than to say something like that. He apologized if it sounded like the other word, and he understands why the backlash against him took place. Since it was an audible mistake, and the bleep made it sound worse, he understands why people are upset. He said there is no room for that kind of racism, and if people thought he said it, he deserved to be blasted for it, but he didn't. To read the rest of what he had to say, click http://www.1wrestling.com/news/newsline.asp?news=4004 **Stephanie McMahon was on Opie & Anthony today, another of those shows where you can't exactly take everything seriously on. She said that Bob Costas didn't do his homework for the now famous interview. She didn't know the rules of the Duchess of Queensbury match. As of yesterday at least, I don't think anyone did. She talked about Brawl for All. When asked about Godfather's ho's not being there, she said advertisers don't like the ho's. (Cred: Dave Scherer, Dave Meltzer) _______________ [News from WCW] **WWFE is at this point going full steam on the idea WCW would be a separate television show. Jim Ross had meetings with a lot of people over the past week plus. There seems to be at least interest from everyone they want with the exception of Sting and they seem to be conceding that they aren't going to be able to get Bill Goldberg because it wouldn't be the right business move on Goldberg's part. Most of the others that they want have at least expressed interest in coming including Ric Flair. Whether the deals can be put together is all that's remaining. **Regarding Flair, due to his WCW contract, the idea that he would be involved in any sort of a Carolinas regional group, while he personally likes the idea, just isn't going to happen. **Chavo Guerrero Jr., Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo will be working some shows with UPW until the WCW launch, and maybe even afterwards. Ross told the guys to work as much as they can and encouraged them to work indie dates to get more ring time in. WCW wrestlers who aren't under WWF contract now are still banned for doing any indie dates (Cred: Dave Meltzer) __________________ [In other news...] **Mandalay Sports Entertainment extended their agreement with Calgary's Digital Artisans Guild Inc., the producers of the MatRats.com show. The press release states "The contract now confirms and solidifies a two-year agreement originally architected and outlined in a February 22nd Press Release, whereby Mandalay will aggressively work to promote and advance DAG's MatRats, a high energy wrestling and music show targeting teens and young adults." **It appears the XFL future is very much in doubt despite what people are saying publicly. The two key items regarding the decision are likely Vince McMahon's thoughts on it as a business, and a decision made by UPN, which only had a one season contract, as to whether to renew or not. "There are fairly significant issues that would prevent a second year on UPN" said Adam Ware, the network's CEO in USA Today. "As to whether or not we can figure out a way to address them, I don't have that answer." If UPN doesn't renew, combined with the likelihood of NBC dropping, it would almost surely spell the end of the league. Even league President Basil DeVito has said the league couldn't continue with only a TNN deal. **The Brian Pillman Memorial show is now scheduled for 8/9 in Cincinnati headlined by Chris Benoit vs. William Regal (Cred: lwn, Dave Meltzer) ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] Road Dogg talks UPN9 News on WWOR-TV in the New York/New Jersey area, which follows Smackdown, had a piece on the Road Dogg during tonight's broadcast. They interspersed interview clips with old Smackdown footage, and referred to Road Dogg as Brian James. James said the pop from the crowd was better than any drug he ever had. They talked about his family, and how he was born into wrestling. Said he was neglecting his family by being on the road so much, and they put over the heavy road schedule of the WWF. They aired an old Al Snow interview clip talking about how he only gets home for two or three days a week. James talked about how hard the transition from road life to real life is. The broadcaster said he had a drug problem and marriage problems. James said he loved the business more than his family or himself, and it cost him. He talked about making the choice between staying with the WWF, or leaving to try and save his marriage. The WWF made the choice for him by releasing him. He said he had no ill will against the WWF for letting him go, and it was mentioned that they had put him into drug rehab twice. The report then stated that he was unable to save his marriage, and he has a divorce pending. He talked about not having his kids with him everyday, and was in tears. He said he was doing what he could to better himself, and was crying. They talked about how the Armstrong's will be running shows and camps in Florida, with money going to help the Children's Miracle Network. His final quote was that it was more important to get his life and family back than to make money. ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] Rob Van Dam talks...again Ron Van Dam was an "in studio" guest of The John Boy and Billy Radio Show this morning. Here are some of highlights of his answers to caller questions. He learned kickboxing from a local kickboxing promoter who allowed RVD and a friend to use his ring if they would train and spar with his workers. He has studied various styles of martial arts, but still prefers kickboxing. When asked about Shane McMahon's use of the Van Terminator, he said that "He nailed it", and that he can no longer claim to be the only wrestler to be able to perform that move. (The caller added that Shane did a good job, but no one could do it like RVD and I agree). He is still keeping in touch with Paul Heyman, which usually consists of a "ten second conversation followed by Paul saying, (in a raspy voice) I'll call you back in ten minutes!" When asked about wrestlers that inspired him, he talked about being 13 or 14 years old and seeing the WWF for the first time. The wrestlers that he liked would not be the big superstars but the more creative and acrobatic workers. Men like Lanny Poffo, Brady Boone, and Owen Hart who was the Blue Blazer at that time. As far as his future goes, he has spoken with some indy promotions, but is keeping his options open. He has had "no serious talks with Vince McMahon." When asked about the future of wrestling, he said that this should be a "good time for the independents." He added that he is also interested with what McMahon will do with WCW and can't wait to see the first WWF edition of Nitro. ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Vile Thoughts - by The Vile First off, congrats to the LA Extreme on being the inaugural XFL Champions. It was a great season, and I have to thank Vince McMahon for making football fun again. Can't wait till next year; especially if we get a team here in Detroit as rumored!! Well, this Sunday marks the WWF's Backlash, also known as chapter two of putting on pay per views with no competition whatsoever. Except for the main event, this event really hasn't been shamelessly pushed as per WWF standards. On the eve of another $29.95 spent this month, I have a few obervations to share with you... It's still hard for me to picture this HHH/Austin thing. This is weirder than watching Roger Clemens pitch for the Yankees. It just doesn't seem right. Anyway, I guess I shouldn't get too used to it, especially if HHH is gonna go face in the future. Now that will be bizarre. Also, is it just me, or when they decided to make Austin a heel, they decided to make his repertoire of moves as limited as Hogan's? Austin now has the kick, the punch, the spinebuster, and the stunner. And let's not forget the chair shot. How about mixing a suplex in now and again? As for the heroes, are there any two more unlikely than Kane and the Undertaker? While they are WWF mainstays, it's weird to think of them as "the last hope" for the WWF. Oh, wait a minute...That's Rock. But we're not supposed to say anything about that until summer, right? By the way, I hope you guys enjoyed holding those 4 belts at the end of Smackdown, because you'll have none by about 10:45 EDT Sunday evening. I'm just wondering if Perry Saturn gets tired of doing absolutely nothing, if he wants to go back to his original profession. That being Woody Woodpecker's arch nemesis Wally Walrus. Also, has anyone else noticed that Terri looks like she's auditioning for "The 60's" part two? Nice to see the Dudleys hit the 3D on X-Pac on Smackdown. That pretty much assures X-Factor the win on Sunday. Also because the Dudley's almost never get to beat the X-Punk on PPV. It's one of those unwritten rules. Just like Tito Santana never got to win a Wrestlemania PPV (Before you start screaming, Wrestlemania 1 was not on PPV). It was the sleeper match 26 days ago, and it will be the sleeper natch on Sunday. Kurt angle vs. Chris Benoit. Two of the best workers in the game go at it again. However, I put the over/under on total submissions at 3. If you have either guy win by more than a 2-1 score, both of them are going to look like total pusses. If you have to take a bathroom break, don't take it during this match!! It's also the first anniversary of the Big Blow vs.Shane O Mac. While last year's match was about as good as a glass of warm, stale beer, this year's match could be just as exciting. The only way this thing gets interesting is if you get some WCW guys involved. Otherwise, take your bathroom break here. And don't forget the immortal "Duchess of Queensbury" rules match, whatever the hell that is. First off, wasn't Queensbury a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals? Anyway, after the display we saw on Smackdown, it's obvious that Duchess of Queensbury rules means that the rules will be changed until the heel wins. We saw lame ass sh*t like this back in the NWA when Mike Rotundo was TV Champion. Only then Kevin Sullivan said that even though Rotundo's matches had 20 minute time limts, some little known rule stated that the title would be on the line for only the first 10 minutes of the match. It was stupid then, and it's stupid now. And in closing, this column kind of marks a milestone for me as well. My first column was a preview of Backlash one year ago today. It's funny how quickly the year has gone by, and that the authorities have not caught up to me by now. That "Richard Kimble" alias must really be paying off. Seriously though, it's been great to be able to share my thoughts with all you great readers, and I appreciate all the comments that you've E-Mailed to me. It's been a blast. I hope year two is just as fun. ______________________________________________________________________ [Parting Chair Shot] Remember, tell your friends about nWN - naidO's Wrestling News today! **Missed any TV Shows?
