The five-story gateway at Broadway and 43rd Street is scheduled for completion in June and will lead visitors to the WWF's store and restaurant, The New York Times reported Wednesday. The Paramount Building, designed by Rapp & Rapp, was constructed from 1926 to 1927 with a 3,600-seat auditorium at its base. The theater closed in 1964 and was replaced by office floors while the marquee and arch disappeared, said Robert Mark Parnes of Tobin Parnes, the firm hired to do the restoration. The rebuilding is to be done from photographs, presenting architects with a challenge since fine details appear slightly different in each picture. The WWF logo will be in the crown of the 39-foot marquee, which will be faced in three large fiber-reinforced plastic panels with a bonded bronze finish. The word ``Paramount'' will be illuminated with 400 lights above the arch in the script of the movie studio. The smaller- sized word ``Building'' underneath. The crown will be strong enough to serve as an outdoor stage. ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Vile Thoughts - by The Vile I have to admit one thing right off the bat. I miss WCW, with no one to compare the WWF to, it gets a little hard coming up with mindless drivel to share with you guys. Anyway, it was nice to see that the WWF was finally doing something to promote Backlash. I guess with no competition, there's no mad rush to promote the matches a month before they happen anymore. So now with Kane and Undertaker as the tag champs, I guess that makes their match with Stone Cold and HHH a tag team title match, and the new drinking buddies will hold all four major titles. Well, zip-a-dee-doo- dah! I guess nothing was learned from WCW's "We'll have Lance Storm hold every title except the world title" gig. I'm all for angles where wrestlers are deemed "unbeatable", but in the same respect, what interest does that leave for the rest of the talent roster when two guys hold four belts? I mean it was different when you had Four Horsemen, Four belts. You had many different angles you could play. For example: Flair vs. Luger, Windham vs. Rhodes, Arn/Tully vs. the Midnight Express. You can do that with SC and HHH. The one problem is they will always be on one side of the equation. What's so great about that? And speaking of tag teams, I heard a nasty rumor this week. We've all heard that at some point the Hardys will break up. The rumor I heard is that Edge and Christian will also break up. Then, Edge and Jeff will concentrate on singles matches, and Matt and Christian will form a new tag team. Whose brilliant idea is this? I know that Benoit and Jericho are a sometime tag team, as well as SC and HHH, but why break up two teams for two other teams that won't be around in six months? And putting Matt and Christian together? Why? In their heyday, I didn't see the Harts and the Bulldogs broken up, and a new team of Jim the Anvil and Dynamite Kid. You've got a good thing going; why screw it up? Leave the tag team scene alone. I certainly don't want to go back to the days of Sparky Plugg and the 123 punk against Tatanka Truck and Bam Bam Bigelow. Here's a question I've been dying to ask for a couple of weeks now: When is Chyna going to retire the women's title? She's about as unlikely a champion as Bill Clinton is a poster boy for celibacy. Chyna normally wrestles the guys; what female on the WWF talent roster can realistically "beat her?" It's like when the "unstoppable" Goldberg was WCW champion. The question becomes-where do you take Chyna from here? So now Shane is going to wrestle Big Blow at Backlash. Uh, excuse me fellas; this wasn't what we wrestling fans had in mind for inter- federational matches. Now you can add the Road Frogg to the list of celebrities so desperate for money, they auction off "personal time" or dates, or rendevouz, or whatever the hell they call it these days. Maybe he can get some pointers from Gary Coleman on how to be an internet prostitute. And lastly, this weekend marks the culmination of the XFL season, "The Million Dollar Game." It's been an interesting season; many ups and downs to say the least. I'm looking forward to the game. It will be a great grudge type matchup. San Francisco impressed me in last week's game, although Orlando should be downright embarrassed. That was a terrible performance, but not the worst of the week. That goes to my beloved Red Wings. (Way to choke a lead, you Greg Norman wannabees.) Anyway, LA also looked very good in their game against the Enforcers. This game was actually more competitive than the SF/Orlando. This game will be a tiebreaker: SF won over LA in week one thanks to a Mike Panasiuk field goal with no time left 15-13. LA won the rematch in decisive fashion 24-0 in week 10. San Fran will be looking for revenge for the bitch slapping, and their offense will be powered by tailback Kelvin Anderson and receivers Jimmy Cunningham and James Hundon. No word on who will start at QB, but they will be in good shape whether it be Pat Barnes or Mike Pawlawski. The Xtreme of course will be led by league MVP Tommy Maddox and receivers Jermaine Copeland and Calvin McDonald. The Xtreme also seems to have found a bit of a running game with Saladin McCullough. The defenses are about even, as are the kicking games. Jose Cortez and Mike Panasiuk are two of the league's better kickers. It should be a great ballgame. I see LA winning in a shootout, 32-29. It will be a great ending for the season and the league as they play their last game ever on NBC. Then Vince can look over at Dick Ebersol, and extend his middle finger. ______________________________________________________________________ [Parting Chair Shot] Remember, tell your friends about nWN - naidO's Wrestling News today! **Missed any TV Shows?
