No update is available on Stu's condition at this time, but when we get one, we'll pass it along. On a related note, Bruce Hart, Stu's son, captured the North American Heavyweight Championship yesterday and dedicated the win to his father. ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **Here are the highlights from this week's Ross Report: - Monday's RAW in Knoxville, TN is already close to sold out and probably will be by air time. Next week's TV programming will be used to set up Backlash. - Speaking of Backlash, tickets to the event in Chicago are sold out. - Business for Wednesday and Thursday's Florida shows were considered to be neither bad nor overwhelming. Talent at the shows suffered no injuries. - Taka Michinoku saw a shoulder specialist on Friday for a torn rotator cuff. Doctors believe the shoulder will be fine with time and physical therapy. - Rikishi had a scheduled doctors appointment on Tuesday. He underwent surgery to repair a busted eardrum several weeks ago and is looking for clearance to return. - K-Kwik has a shoulder problem he is working through. It may require surgery to repair. - Buh Buh Ray Dudley will be seeing an orthopedic doctor next week to look at one of his knees. - Scotty Too Hotty will have another MRI on his neck soon. He is currently rehabbing a neck injury at home. - Insurrextion, the UK only pay-per-view slated for May 5, is looking like this: Steve Austin vs Undertaker for the WWF title Kane vs Triple H Chris Benoit vs William Regal Chris Jericho vs Kurt Angle Several more matches should be added next week. - Chyna will be on "The View" on ABC May 9. - The Rock will appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on May 1 to discuss his movie projects. - WWF has not made Olympic champion Rulon Gardner any offers. - Next on the book train promotion will be "Foley is Good." - JR says now that XFL season is coming to a close, he will have more time to dedicate to the relaunching of WCW. Ross hopes to meet with talent for WCW next week. JR is also participating on an "advisory" board of sorts, helping producer Kevin Dunn to make correct decisions in terms of announcers and production details. The tentative start date for WCW is still June 9 in Fairfax, VA, despite reports on other websites. The plan is to record the show and air it live on tape delay the same night on TNN. - Ross commented on some of the poll names for WCW's Saturday show. He said he liked "Saturday Night Nitro" the best, but thinks it may be behind the times. - Eric Angle, Kurt Angle's brother, is finally getting started in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Eric is said to not be a prodigy like his brother, but does have a great work ethic. - Ross stated that if some of the more bigger named talent from WCW can't be signed to a contract, the WWF will most likely move up Ohio Valley wrestlers to the new WCW show. - Tiger Ali Singh is being sent to Puerto Rico to improve his skills. - The WWF has just signed Christian York and Joey Matthews and wants the team to put on some weight. **Smackdown finished with a 3.7 rating, its lowest marks since the December holidays despite having easier competition with NBC in reruns. The show ended in its usual fourth place on the night. Unlike in the overnights, the show in the first hour lost to ABC's Who's Line is it Anyway? by a 3.7 to 3.5 range, although the reality is that is a win for Smackdown because of how national ratings are figured and ABC having greater penetration (in a more realistic rating, the figures would be 4.0 to 3.7 favoring Smackdown in hour one). **This Sunday night on WWF Heat, Albert will be the guest hosting the program from WWF NY along with Tazz and Michael Cole. **This Monday night on RAW from Knoxville, Tennessee, Triple H will face Jeff Hardy in a rematch for the WWF Intercontinental title. **On Monday night, Trish Stratus will hosting the show at WWF NY for RAW. **The Rock is interviewed in the new issue of Premiere magazine. It's about a four-page article with a brief bio, some nice photos and stories about his budding movie career (The Mummy 2 and the Scorpion King). He comes off like a real nice guy in the article. Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale the cast of Pearl Harbor are on the cover. This week, Shane reveals that the WWF has in fact picked up his contract. Instead of just showing shots of the crowd, there were close-ups on Austin's face instead. TSN also edited out the segment this past Monday night by showing shots of the crowd and ignoring what was going on in the ring. **The Jerry Lawler interview on Between The Ropes is now available for listening in the archive. Due to problems, the show was not available for live listening last night, but the full interview is now available at www.betweentheropes.com In the interview Lawler comments about his departure from the WWF, The Kat's WWF dismissal, and his future. (Cred: lwn, 1wrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Vile Thoughts - by The Vile I have to say that this has been a weird week. Actually, a couple of weeks. It started last weekend as I was watching Wrestlemania with the gang. Try as I might to not do so, I kept pissing off one of my good friends. You see, after watching wrestling for so many years, I have a keen (If you want to call it that) ability to call certain things during matches. Botched moves, unexpected screw job endings, etc. I also have a terrible habit of making these views known to anyone in earshot. And while it's sometimes impressive, it's also downright irritating. At the end of the night, my friend said "Don't worry about it. You're the only person I know that is that wrestling knowledgeable." It was nice to hear, and it made me think. As a wrestling "afficionado" as my friend calls me, I've always been enthralled by trying to figure out what was going to happen before it did. In the pre-internet days, it was great having the gang over for a PPV, and hearing all the possible scenarios that people could come up with. I still have two pre-internet favorites. (1) Before wrestlemania 7, it was rumored that the Harts would drop the tag belts to the Nasty Boys, and Bret would go single. I brazenly predicted that Hart would beat Curt Hennig for the IC belt at that year's Summerslam. It was the stuff "legends in the mind" were made of. (2) About a week before Bash at the Beach in 1994, I had heard Arn Anderson was going to turn heel later in the year. I figured "what the hell, a PPV is as good a time as any." While picking his heel turn wasn't a monumental call, on a whim, I predicted to a friend exactly how and when during his tag match he would do it. And it happened. However, I've had some major misses. My worst was a totally "off the wall" prediction for the first Summerslam. I predicted that Hogan would turn on his then Mega Power partner Randy Savage, making it Andre, Hogan, and DiBiase pounding on the Macho Man. When who should save him, but his former tag team partner Jesse Ventura. Okay, stop laughing. They all can't be winners. Alas, with the internet age, the fine art of predicting angles and outcomes can be a lost art at times, because we have too much access to information. Except for this particular week. WRITER'S DISCLAIMER: DUE TO A HEAVY WORK WEEK, I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCESS TO THE INTERNET UNTIL THURSDAY EVENING AFTER SMACKDOWN. Raw was okay I guess. Nothing great, nothing overly bad. It was great however to see Big Blow get humiliated not once, but twice, as well as the double submission hold on Regal, and the return of Hardcore Holly. Anyway, after seeing Stone Cold lay out Lita, I srated thinking. "Well, they're really pushing this heel thing. First JR, then Lita. I guess that means on Smackdown, he'll stun Debbie." Anyway, my friend didn't have to work Thursday night, so we watched Smackdown. While SC didn't stun her, he did shove her around, so we'll have to see if that goes anywhere. It was hilarious watching Big Blow try to get a tag team to work with him, and it was great when the APA blew him off. In a moment of "Blowhardness" (Is that a word?) I proclaimed "Watch them stick him with Kaientai." When he actually came out with them, I was absolutely stunned. The next words out of my mouth were "I was just kidding." Then a little later, when HHH challenged Jeff Hardy, and inserted the words "Make it a title match if you have to," I had a feeling something might be up. So with nothing to lose, I said "Watch Hardy win the belt. Then they can use it to break up the brothers." I didn't really think Hardy was gonna win. I mean this is Triple H, "The Game". Certainly, an upset like that would be like the Arizona Cardinals beating anyone. And then it happened. The moons must have been in some kind of alignment. Now the question is: will it happen? Will Jeff proclaim "I'm the IC Champ." While Matt says "Because of me." Anyway, it seems like incessant rambling, but it was cool to think that for a brief time this week, it was almost a return to the old days; before the internet. I was hot; I was on the same wavelength as the WWF writers. And without the use of a safety net. Remember, this weekend is the first week of XFL playoffs. San Fran travels to Orlando in a game that should be pretty good. Even though both teams laid down like a cheap hooker last week. Give this one to Orlando. And LA hosts the "surging" Chicago Enforcers. Surge all you want boys. Maddox and the gang finish you off this weekend.
