Tropicana Field is home to Major League Baseball team the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The facility has recently undergone a renovation and holds 45,200 people. The arena also plays host to Davis Cup tennis, NHL hockey, arena football, NBA and NCAA basketball, and figure skating. At night, the dome lights up to look (well, sort of) like an orange. Thus, the "Tropicana" name. ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **Last night's edition of WWF Smackdown! scored a 5.1 metered broadcast rating with an 8 share. **Reminder that tonight on WWF.com's Byte This, Edge, Christian, and Rhyno will be the special guests. You can listen to the broadcast from 4:00-5:00pm ET on WWF.com. **Sunday night's WrestleMania PPV was the company's highest-grossing live event ever, bringing in gross receipts of $3.5 million from the nearly 68 000 in attendance and 30 000+ who attended Axxess fan festival before the event. The WWF also raised $100 000 for several children's organizations. **At this point, Rock is scheduled to be out of action for some time from WWF television due to his movie commitments. That all could change if they need him but that is the working idea right now. **Howard Stern said today that it is almost 100% confirmed that he will do a radio broadcast from WWF-NY (to be televised a week later). They will broadcast a show that revolves around a boxing match between two regulars Crazy Cabbie & Angry Black. Celebrities being discussed Debbie Gibson (to sing the national anthem), Mills Lane (referee), Michael Buffer (announcer) & boxing legends Joe Frazier, Gerry Cooney, Floyd Patterson. No mention of any WWF superstars or an exact date but a WWF star showing up wouldn't surprise anyone. **A small portion of the Vince McMahon interview (the part with the disgruntled & fired XFL cheerleaders) will air on Howard Stern's Saturday night's CBS television show. **With concussion, Tazz finishes match, calls SmackDown! No reason was given as to why, but apparently Jim Ross knew something we didn't when he stressed that the first show was "tentatively" scheduled for that date. **A state district court judge refused today to dismiss racial discrimination lawsuits filed by former WCW employees including Sonny Onno. Vice Chairman and NBC President Bob Wright was interviewed today by both Bloomberg News and the CNBC news show Squawk Box. Among topics discussed was the future of the XFL with NBC and the continuing downward spiral of the ratings. Wright said, "We have a commitment with (WWF Chairman) Vince McMahon and the WWF. We have a two-year arrangement. Sure, we'd like the national ratings higher than they are. The sad part about that is there's a disconnect between the national ratings and going to some of the games. In San Francisco we're sold out. Every home game has been sold out." **Just wanted to pass this along in case you haven't heard about it. On ECW's Path of Destruction DVD there is an Easter egg. If you go to the "special features" menu screen , highlight the words "main menu" and then press the left arrow. This takes you to Brian Pillman's tirade on Bischoff and WCW. Although I do miss the days of having about 10 hours of wrestling to watch, compared to the 4 hours I watch now. So what do we have this week? We have a new IC Champion thanks to Stephanie and William Regal. I guess Triple H has gone without a belt for too long so they gave him the IC. Speaking of Triple H he hasn't won this award in a couple of weeks. And, after what he pulled on the Rock with Austin on Monday Night, it's hard not to give it to him. However, what Austin did to JR on Smackdown was classic. I really believe Austin can get over as a heel, but I will probably be one of the people still cheering him. So after these events I found no other choice but give the award to... Co winners: Triple H and Steve Austin There was just something great about the end of RAW and seeing The Rock lying in the center of the ring and Austin, Triple H, and Vince drinking beer. They both managed to screw the Rock and the fans over and I loved it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see Taker and Kane win the Tag Titles and have a major title match at Backlash: Tag Team Champions Undertaker and Kane VS World Champ Steve Austin and IC Champ Triple H..sounds good to me.
