That was f'n eerie shyte. - naidO nWN Founder - http://www.geocities.com/naidosnews ______________________________________________________________________ [TOP NEWS STORY] Backstage Nitro Notes: Shane McMahon came to Panama City with Gerald Brisco and all the wrestlers applauded him. Different people have different reactions to this. Very similar to Vince Russo actually, which is scary, although I'm sure the end result will be different. The younger wrestlers at least know the company will have a direction, something it has been badly lacking. The veterans are more skeptical because of the long-term problem of one man having that much power in the industry and how every top star's negotiating leverage has just been eliminated. McMahon gave a speech reading notes saying he wants to make WCW as big or bigger than the WWF and said that everyone would start with a clean slate and get a chance. McMahon gave no start date for the television show, but said they hoped to have it started in six to eight weeks. The plan as it stands right now is for no WCW talent to appear on Raw but that a few Raw regulars would work the WCW shows. WWF is going to spin the bad time slot as it was something they wanted because Vince is attempting to compete with Saturday Night Live because of what Lorne Michaels intimated about the XFL in the second week of the season. The reality is that wrestling these days has such a negative image with television people that even TNN, a station which Vince really put on the map with Raw these last few months, doesn't want another wrestling show in prime time. ______________________________________________________________________ Monday night ratings - final Monday For Monday 3/26 TIME NITRO RAW -------------------------- 8:00-9:00 3.1 --- 9:00-10:00 2.9 4.1 10:00-11:00 --- 5.3 -------------------------- Head to Head 2.9 4.1 -------------------------- Composite 3.0 4.7 Change +0.9 +0.1 (1Wrestling.com) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **Dave Meltzer reports Shawn Michaels walked out of Smackdown tapings last night in Detroit after learning his segment was once again cut from the show. Michaels was scheduled to appear on RAW on Monday, but the segment was canned and rescheduled until last night. Due to the simulcast between Nitro and RAW, Michaels' segment was cut from RAW. **Baseball's all-time hit king, Pete Rose is set to make his fourth appearance at Wrestlemania, this Sunday on PPV. Rose, is scheduled to meet with WWF officials today to finalize his WM role. Pete's unusual WM tradition will continue, as he has apparently set his sights once again on the "Big Red Machine" Kane. **The April edition of WWF Raw Magazine has officially hit newstands across the country, and Trish Stratus grazes the cover. Inside, you will find an article about Trish's rookie year in the WWF, including her rise to stardom alongside T & A, as well as her current role as the seductress of Vince. WWF.com has posted several pictures as well as videos of Trish's Raw Magazine covershoot, which you can check out by visiting http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1044823 **Weird note of the week: If you caught Raw is War Monday night, you might have noticed that when shown close up, Steve Austin's beer was a Busch's non-alcoholic beer. **Backstage SmackDown! notes: - Before you ever think about how glamorous the life of being in wrestling is, consider this. After Raw ended in Cleveland on Monday, the crew had to proceed to the next days' Smackdown taping in Detroit. That is an approximately three hour drive, so by the time the production guys left the Raw building after midnight, it was around 3:30 a.m. by the time they got to Detroit. They were back at the building in Detroit around 7:30 a.m. to set up for Smackdown. Now, they are on their way to Houston for Mania. Yep, that is glamour folks. Note my sarcasm. - Shane McMahon also came to the show, and was there around 7:30 a.m. yesterday as well from what I heard. Obviously, he had to fly up from Florida so his schedule was a nasty one too. - More names being talked about as being in the gimmick battle royal this weekend were the Honky Tonk Man, The One Man Gang (maybe as Akeem, and if so, bring in the Slickster too) and Greg Valentine. No firm word if any of them will be at the show or not. - There was also some kind of WCW segment that was apparently planned but it was scrapped when runners who were sent out to find WCW merchandise couldn't find any at local stores. **ESPN Magazine has an article today on Vince McMahon buying WCW. It's a pretty interesting read. http://espn.go.com/magazine/assael_20010327.html (Cred: 1wrestling, ultimowrestling, lwn) _______________ [News from WCW] **"Monday was an interesting night for the wrestling industry. That may be the understatement of the century. The combined Nitro and Raw was a landmark show. Two competing networks had an interactive show going on live across both networks. I don't think this has ever been done before or will ever be done again." To read the rest of Lance Storm's commentary, click http://www.stormwrestling.com/commentary/ **TNT, the now former network of WCW Nitro, sent out a press release today where they stated that they plan to roll out "an extensive branding initiative targeting Drama Lovers." Their plan is to target their network to toward an adult audience with "the branding proposition of 100 percent dramatic entertainment". They said that they will have original movies, a new series called, "Witchblade" and "the blue chip sports properties Wimbledon, NASCAR, the NBA playoffs and the PGA Championship". Wrestling just doesn't cut the muster I guess. With ad dollars on the decline, they are looking for upscale advertisers and plan to build a more affluent viewership demographic. Immediate plans have him flying to Mexico next week where he is expected to be involved in some sort of on camera angle for EMLL. As well, Hodgkinson hopes to work dates in Japan for NOAH owner Mitsuharu Misawa sometime in the near future. He is presently accepting independent bookings. (NYSE: WWF - news) and Snickers Cruncher(TM) present the pay-per-view extravaganza, WrestleManiaź X- Seven, live this Sunday, April 1, 2001, at 8:00 p.m. ET from the Reliant Astrodome in Houston. More than 65,000 fans are expected to witness the event live, including fans from all 50 states and 16 countries. In the main event of WrestleMania X-Seven, two of the biggest stars in World Wrestling Federation history square off, as The Rock defends his Championship against Stone Cold Steve Austin. Thanks to World Wrestling Federation Chairman Vince McMahon, Austin's wife Debra has been named The Rock's manager, a decision that has put the ``Texas Rattlesnake'' in an unhappy mood. The mutual respect that these two Superstars have for each other has been overshadowed by a personal rivalry. This rematch is two years in the making, as the last time they faced each other, Stone Cold came out the victor. The Rock is determined not to let history repeat itself at WrestleMania X-Seven. Will Austin ``stun'' The Rock on his way to victory, or will the People's Champion Rock Bottom his way to retaining the gold? For the first time in WrestleMania history, a father and son collide, as World Wrestling Federation Chairman Vince McMahon squares off against his son, Shane McMahon, in a street fight. Over the past few months, Vince McMahon has asked his wife Linda for a divorce, put her into a mental sanitarium, and has become ``good friends'' with the lovely Trish Stratus. Finally witnessing enough, Shane attacked his father on a recent edition of Raw Is War. After that attack, he declared the relationship with his father ``over'' and challenged him to a match. To make matters worse, Shane stepped in and purchased the WCW right out from under his father's nose. Will Shane create his own McMahon legacy at WrestleMania X-Seven, or will Vince McMahon prove that father always knows best? Two World Wrestling Federation veterans do battle at WrestleMania X- Seven as Triple H goes against Undertaker. In an interview on Raw Is War, Triple H decided to go public with his frustration that he was not in the main event of WrestleMania X-Seven. That interview was cut short by Undertaker, who made it clear that the ring is ``his yard,'' and that Triple H had no business complaining about the way he was being treated. Since that time, the feud between these two Superstars has intensified. Recently on SmackDown!, Undertaker attacked Triple H with a crowbar and smashed the window of his limousine, leading to Undertaker's arrest. At WrestleMania X-Seven, Triple H steps into Undertaker's ``yard,'' but will he be in for his ``last ride''? The World Wrestling Federation Women's Championship is on the line at WrestleMania X-Seven as Ivory, champion and member of the Right to Censor, squares off against the Ninth Wonder of the World Chyna. Ivory faced Chyna in January's Royal Rumble and, in addition to walking away victorious, knocked Chyna out of action for two months. On a recent Raw Is War, Chyna had seen enough of Ivory's actions and gave her a first-hand preview of the assault she plans to unleash in Houston. Will Chyna walk away from WrestleMania X-Seven as the World Wrestling Federation Women's Champion, or will the Right to Censor continue its quest to make the World Wrestling Federation ``socially acceptable''? WrestleMania X-Seven will be broadcast live from the Reliant Astrodome in Houston via pay-per-view and satellite technologies on Sunday, April 1, 2001, at 8:00 p.m. ET with a replay immediately following at 12:00 midnight. This four-hour spectacular is available via cable and satellite providers in all 50 states for $39.95, as well as internationally in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. An ``Encore Presentation'' of WrestleMania X-Seven will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight ET.
