I missed that. - naidO nWN Founder - http://www.geocities.com/naidosnews ______________________________________________________________________ [TOP NEWS STORY] Vince McMahon held a meeting with the wrestlers yesterday before Raw yesterday where he thanked everyone in the WWF for their hard work in helping bring the company to the momentous day when they took full control of the wrestling business. In the meeting, Vince, who was very happy all day, obviously felt proud of what the WWF had done and he thanked all of the employees for their hard work that led to the WWF buying WCW. He said that he could have let WCW go under, but there were people in WCW who had families to feed and that by letting the company go under, he would have been putting those people out on the street with nowhere to work. He said that WCW would be run as its own company and that the goal was to make it successful, not close it down in a year or so. He also said that there would be minimal "swapping of talent" between the two companies and they would be run as two separate companies. He did say that a few WWF wrestlers could leave and go become part of WCW, but don't expect inter-promotional angles. From what I was told, the mood backstage at Raw was one of happiness and pride since the work of all of the people there had led to the situation where the WWF was able to put the crossface on WCW. (1wrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **After RAW went off the air, Stone Cold got up and chased Earl Hebner around the ring. He yelled at Lillian Garcia and drank beer in the ring. He got on Undertaker's motorcycle and then went backstage. He came back out and messed with a camera, taking shots of the crowd with it and putting his middle finger in front of it. **Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Kurt Angle will be the main event for the Memphis Championship Wrestling show in Jackson, TN, on 4/18. The two had a match for the WWF title at the last big MCW show on 2/21, which ended with HHH winning by DQ when the Kliq did a run-in as Helmsley was about to pedigree Angle. Also scheduled: Steve Bradley & Victoria vs. Crash & Molly Holly, William Regal vs. American Dragon, and Haas Brothers vs. Christian York & Joey Matthews for the Southern tag team titles. Acolytes are booked to appear as well. (Cred: 1wrestling) _______________ [News from WCW] **In dark matches from the final edition of Nitro, Mark Jindrak beat Jason Jett and Hugh Morrus and Konnan beat Disqo and Mike Sanders. **Multichannel News ran a story today that said that WCW wrestlers will appear on this Sunday's WrestleMania. In it they wrote, "Top WCW wrestlers will compete during the WWF's WrestleMania pay-per-view event, traditionally one of the top- grossing PPV events of the year, the McMahons revealed Monday night." I think they got confused there, because that is not what was said on the show. No WCW wrestlers are scheduled to be part of this weekend's PPV at this point. If top WCW wrestlers were going to be at Mania, that is also news to the wrestlers. The only contact that they had with the WWF was a brief meeting before Nitro where Shane McMahon told the workers and staff that they would be getting opportunities in the new WCW. On an aside, the wrestlers were also told to expect Vince to be very nasty towards them in the angle last night, but that it was all just part of the storyline. I guess we will see about that when contracts start getting offered and redone. **As of now, TNN and WWF sources have confirmed that WCW now has the 11 p.m. Saturday night timeslot on TNN. **Shane McMahon held a talent meeting backstage at Nitro last night, where he indicated that they were in the process of evaluating talent, and that nothing had been decided on layoffs just yet. He also said that they are hopeful of starting up the new WCW in around 6 to 8 weeks. - Johnny Ace, Ed Ferrara, Terry Taylor, Bruce Prichard and Gerald Brisco were the main backstage agents at Nitro basically running the show. - DDP, Jeff Jarrett, Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger were at the show, but weren't used on TV. Luger and Bagwell apparently left the building before Nitro. - Brad Siegel and Eric Bischoff were not at Nitro. - B. Brian Blair, Dory Funk Jr. and former Nitro Girls Paisley, Spice, and Fyre were backstage at Nitro. - Torrie Wilson was also backstage at the show. Although she told people she was just hanging out with boyfriend Billy Kidman, many believe she was hoping to get recognized by WWF officials. - Brian James aka The Road Dogg was spotted at the hotel that WCW wrestlers are staying at, but did not show up backstage. Nitro ended with a music video to plus the Austin-Rock match at Wrestlemania, and the storyline that Shane McMahon purchased WCW from under the nose of his father to put heat on their feud. The key element is that the TNN television deal wasn't finalized, as they never mentioned that Nitro would continue or where. Both WWF and TNN sources have confirmed the 11 p.m. Saturday night time slot, which in and of itself shows just how badly wrestling has fallen in the television community when McMahon, on a station that he personally increased the ratings of tremendously just through two hours of weekly programming every Monday, can't get a second prime time show on. Reports from both sides is that there is no start date finalized other than they would like to get it going as soon as possible. It was very strange also, because it confirmed that the person buying the tickets for the most part has no knowledge of what really goes on. The expectation that the mention of certain prima donnas that killed WCW would get major booing didn't materialize, and that weird segment of the audience not reacting the way expected made the strange historical segment that much stranger. Did they save Bagwell and Steiner's job? Or will McMahon learn from the mistakes of his predecessors of not ridding the locker room of the selfish cancers that destroyed the company the first time? ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] Is Jarrett really G-OO-NN-EE? When Vince McMahon "fired" Jeff Jarrett on the air last night, the mood in the WWF locker room was that while it was harsh to see that happen to someone, it was understood why it was done. As a little background, Jarrett left the WWF for WCW in October of 1999. He was one of the first "surprises" Vince Russo brought into WCW with him after Russo jumped there. The problem centered around the fact that Jarrett's contract expired on October 16, the day before the No Mercy PPV. The problem was, Jarrett was the Intercontinental Champion at the time. Jim Ross took the heat for "letting Jarrett's contract expire". Clearly though, WCW wanted the surprise of having the man who fans last saw as the WWF IC champ (at least those who didn't buy the No Mercy PPV) debut on Nitro on October 18. Jarrett was reportedly ready to jump to WCW because Steve Austin refused to work a program with him. The WWF negotiated a one day contract extension with Jarrett to work the PPV and drop the IC belt to Chyna. The heat stems from the fact that Jarrett reported demanded a bonus from the WWF (said to be $250,000) before he would work the match. So, when Vince fired him on TV last night, he sent a message to Jarrett, and probably others, that the way that they left the WWF will be remembered now that Vince owns both the WWF and WCW.
