Oh well, at least he has family - naidO nWN Founder - http://www.geocities.com/naidosnews ______________________________________________________________________ [TOP NEWS STORY] Scott Rechsteiner, a/k/a Scott Steiner, will appear in Forsyth District courtroom 001C tomorrow morning at 9AM to face charges of simple assault. Steiner is accused of assaulting Randall Mankins on-camera during a Nitro taping in January in Winston-Salem, NC. Mankins was part of the show, playing a medic, when Steiner attacked him and kicked his shoulder. The attack was planned, but Mankins says the force of Steiner's kick was not. Steiner is already on probation for seven years after he plead guilty to aggravated assault and making terroristic threats. Since I live close to the courtroom, we should have an update sometime tomorrow on this story. ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **In case you missed it (why?), former ECW wrestlers Rhino and Spike Dudley made their debut on RAW. Rhino helped Edge & Christian win the Tag Team titles. Later, Spike helped the Dudley Boys win the same straps. **Nova was supposed to get a dark match tryout at last night's Raw taping but due to a miscommunication, he was not at the show. It is expected that he will be at tonight's SmackDown taping. **After RAW is WAR went off the air, Austin slowly got up, Y2J and Rock walked to the back. Austin drank 2 beers for each corner, the went on the announcers' table and drank about 10 more. After this, Austin hands a cameraman a beer. They toast and drink. We have ourselves a drinking contest between Austin and the cameraman!. After about 4, the cameraman drops out. Austin celebrates at the top of the ramp and RAW is WAR comes to an end! **Wrestlemania X-Seven hasn't even taken place yet and amazon.com already has a date for the VHS version which is May 8th and it's available for pre-order. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000055ZK9/ref=si **Chyna and Lil' Kim interviewed together: NEW YORK (AP) -- World Wrestling Federation superstar Chyna says Lil' Kim would make "a great tag-team partner." "I just bought the Lil' Kim album," Chyna told Vibe magazine in its April issue. "I wasn't too familiar with her music, but I bought it for the album cover. I loved her makeup and her outfit." Chyna told Vibe she listens to all types of music, but when asked to name her favourite rapper, she replied, "I like the old stuff. Like ... like ... I like that Funky Cold Medina." Then she laughed. (Cred: 1wrestling, the law, lwn) _______________ [News from WCW] **Lex Luger & Buff Bagwell's post-match stalling and not getting out of the ring was their childish reaction to being asked to do another job for Chuck Palumbo & Sean O'Haire and not part of the script. They were hot in the afternoon and there was some belief after they got the finish and went to the gym that they weren't even going to come back. **Eric Bischoff appeared on Nitro, via telephone, and announced that next week's "season finale" of Nitro (which has already been announced as the end of wrestling on the Turner networks) will be a "night of champions", with Scott Steiner facing Booker T in a WCW Title vs. US Title match. He also promised that every other title in the company would be defended. He invited any past WCW champion to show up as well, meaning we will probably see the return of Goldberg, Sting, Kevin Nash and maybe even Hulk Hogan. Obviously, this immediately got people saying that this whole situation with the Fusient deal falling through and Turner canceling WCW from their networks was a work. At this point, I don't know. It does seem odd that Turner would allow Bischoff to appear on their TV and run an angle if the Fusient deal had really fallen through. It would seem that Fusient, at least, is still in negotiations with AOL Time Warner in some shape if they allowed Bischoff to run an angle on their TV show. But, as has been the case with this story for a while now, it's very hard to get a read on this situation. (Cred: 1wrestling, lwn) _______________ [News from ECW] **Nothing at this time (Cred: ) __________________ [In other news...] **Sunday's Orlando Sentinel ran an article saying that Tampa radio host Todd "Bubba the Love Sponge" Clem has been suspended indefinitely from his radio talk show after the station was bombarded with calls and letters from people who were outraged by a stunt that Clem staged in the parking lot of the station where he slaughtered a pig on his 2/27 show. Bubba frequently has Hulk Hogan, and other wrestlers, on his radio show. (Cred: 1wrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] TBS, TNT smack down wrestling Ric Russo - Special to the Sentinel Posted March 20, 2001 Pro wrestling has been a major part of the programming on Ted Turner- run stations since he created the WTBS Superstation nearly three decades ago. But next week, wrestling will disappear from Turner`s former empire. Time Warner/AOL, the company that purchased Turner Broadcasting last year, has pulled the plug on World Championship Wrestling. The last installment of WCW Thunder, which runs on TBS, was taped in Gainesville this week and will air Wednesday. The final telecast of WCW Nitro, on TNT, will be aired live Monday from Panama City. Left in question is whether the wrestling organization can return in a different form. Fusient Media Ventures had agreed in principle to purchase WCW from Time Warner/AOL earlier this year, but that deal has been stalled in recent weeks. TBS spokesman Jim Weiss said WCW is still on the market. "WCW will be sold very swiftly I am sure of that," he said. "Fusient is still in the picture, but I can`t say for sure who will end up with WCW. It`s too early to tell." "It certainly marks the end of an era here, no question about that," Weiss said of the decision to drop the telecasts. "Basically we have decided professional wrestling in its current form is not consistent with the upscale brands we`ve built and hope to continue here at TBS and TNT." WCW wrestlers reached Monday would not comment but said they hope to learn more about their futures in a meeting with AOL/Time Warner management next week. WCW has a roster of several dozen performers, but all live shows beyond next Monday have been canceled. WCW used to be tops in the ratings but has taken a beating from Vince McMahon`s rival World Wrestling Federation for several years. WCW wrestlers also have defected to the WWF regularly, although WCW still has some well-known wrestling names in Jeff Jarrett, Ric Flair, Buff Bagwell and Apopka brothers Ron and Don Harris, among others. The organization can trace its roots back to 1973, when Turner launched his Superstation and TBS became synonymous with three forms of programming: Atlanta Braves baseball, The Andy Griffith Show and professional wrestling. What was to become WCW was then called Georgia Championship Wrestling. "Ted Turner used to love to bring his celebrity friends around the set when we were taping the old Georgia Championship Wrestling shows," said Ole Anderson, a former wrestler who used to work for Turner and came up with the name World Championship Wrestling. "I remember one time he brought Raquel Welch onto the set to show off his wrestlers. I got the feeling he really liked the fact that professional wrestling was part of his station." Alan Sharp has worked in the public relations department for WCW for seven years. The announcement that the March 26th Nitro broadcast would be the last was bittersweet. "It`s been a great ride, but it`s over. It`s time to do something else," Sharp said. "When I first came on board here I wasn`t a wrestling fan, but I became one and I`ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here." Sharp says he will be at the final show in Panama City to say goodbye to some old friends. "It will be sad to an extent, but I get the feeling you`ll be seeing some of these guys [the wrestlers] on some other station down the road," Sharp said. ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] Fusient & AOL still talking The Associated Press ran a story this evening that stated that while wrestling was off of TNT and TBS as of next week, AOL Time Warner and Fusient Media Ventures are still in talks to have Fusient buy the scaled down version of WCW. They quoted Fusient spokesman Paul Breton as saying, "At this point, they're still talking." The AP also said that TBS spokesman Jim Weiss said that the company will be sold quickly. They also quoted Weiss as saying, about airing wrestling, that, "It was a nice ride, but it's time for the ride to be over." The story also reported that Weiss confirmed that in addition to Fusient, the WWF is also in talks to buy the network-less WCW. What that could mean is that Eric Bischoff appeared on Nitro last night as part of a good faith effort between AOL Time Warner and Fusient. If Bischoff wants any kind of payoff to the show they have set up for next week, it's imperative that Fusient: 1) Buy the company. and 2) Get a TV slot on another network.
