He said the XFL was headed for the dumpster, Gov. Jesse Ventura was trying to worka feud with coach Rusty Tillman, and Opie & Anthony have dumped their pregame show. He concluded: "Watch how, in a few months, everyone from the legitimate TV world who played a role in NBC's XFL will make no mention of the XFL in their bios and resumes. Folks who try to go legit after selling out to McMahon become practiced in the art of trying to forget. "Watch how Dick Ebersol and the rest of NBC's executive branch now begin trying to spin the XFL a what-did-we-have-to-lose? experiment. They'll try to minimize or ignore the fact that they turned their sports division over to Vince McMahon while banging his XFL drums for all they were worth. Watch how people now begin the process of trying to rid themselves of McMahon's stench. Just watch." As reported before, York & Mathews passed on the WCW deal shortly after the WWF offered them developmental deals. The team is expected to be placed in the WWF's developmental territory in Memphis. (Cred: ultimo) _______________ [News from WCW] **As has been detailed, the earlier plan for WCW was to shutdown in early April for a few weeks to restructure everything, and then bring all the top guys back in late April/early May to build up their May 6th PPV. Apparently now all those plans have been thrown out the window, as is evidence by Booker T returning tonight on Nitro. WCW will be running shows every Monday night in April. **The main reason for WCW changing its plans every few weeks is due to the fact that the WCW sale has not yet been finalized, and there have been some snags along the way in completing the deal. **The big May 6 WCW PPV that has been talked about, is set to go down in Las Vegas, Nevada. **For those of you who missed Nitro, here are the brackets in the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Title tournament: - Rey Mysterio Jr and Billy Kidman defeated Johnny Swinger and Josh Lee - Scotty O and Jaime Knoble vs. Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore - AJ Styles and Air Paris vs. Elix Skipper and a mystery partner - The Jung Dragons vs. Kwee Wee and Mike Sanders **There is no word on whether Johnny Swinger's match was a tryout match last night on Nitro. Prior to working in ECW, Swinger was a regular on the WCW Saturday Night program. (Cred: ultimo) _______________ [News from ECW] **Nothing. Hodgkinson is hoping to receive doctors clearance to return to in-ring action in about 2-3 weeks time. He's presently working out and trying to get himself back into shape. He recently approached Johnny Ace about the possibilities of sending him over to work in Japan for about a month, as he hasn't worked out in a ring for quite some time now. Hodgkinson is still planning on going out on tour with the Insane Clown Posse later on this summer. In the meantime, he's been preparing for the lead villain role in an untitled movie that will apparently feature a ton of shoot fighters. ICP may possibly be appearing in the movie as well, although without any face paint. From what's been heard, Hodgkinson's character in the movie will actually be known as Vampiro! (the law) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Rounding The Squared Circle "YOU HAVE A TOUGH ROAD AHEAD TRYING TO TOP NWO" OR "WORTH EVERY RED CENT ($29.95 OUTSIDE OF DUDLEYVILLE)" If you didn't see No Way Out (NWO) last night, you missed what arguably was the best PPV in the past couple of years. Many PPV's promise a lot; many are a waste of time and money; some have a decent match or two; few are as good as NWO. From top to bottom it was solid, with two terrific matches. A lot of fans are happy if they get a PPV with just one good match; a rare treat "Indeed" (thank you Mr. Funaki). Looking at NWO, the only real disappointment was The King's match with The Turd, the leader of the RTC (Rectum's, Transvestites and Cross-Dressers). Not much was expected in the way of wrestling in this one; it was The Stipulation that made it interesting. If The King won, we got The Kat au natural; if The Turd won, RTC got The Kat. With the telltale "N" missing on our TV's, we knew The Kat was destined for a fate worse than going to WCW - being turned into a clone of Ivory. Yuck! There are millions and millions of The Rock's (and everyone else's) fans around the world that want to kill everyone and everything associated with the RTC. I wonder if The Kat has to dress like a 1860s old spinster schoolmarm at home now that she has been sucked into the RTC, and what will it do to The King? The Hardcore Championship Match was one we have seen on RAW and/or SmackDown recently. Raven defends, the locker room empties, The Big Slowest choke slams everyone east of the Mississippi, and the title changes hands almost as often as the WCW Title does. The only difference was this time El Grande Slowbo lumbered away with the "Belt." One has to wonder what The WWF would do if there were no fire extinguishers, garbage can lids or traffic signs available. It's about time they used some other goodies. Maybe they can borrow a New Jack Starter Kit from ECW. While repetitive, it was entertaining ... but Les Moose de Lead Foot Champion? The Fatal Four Way for the Intercontinental Title saw Y2J retain the Title as he came out on top of Les Gap Toothed Uno, X-Puke and Chyna's ex. With three excellent workers in the match, even X-Puke couldn't screw things up. The match was what you expect from a Fatal Four Way; many attempted pins and just as many foiled ones. I am not a big fans of Three Ways (in the ring anyway) or Fatal Fours because they restrict the moves that can be done, but when you have this many great workers, they are well worth watching. Too bad Chyna is still "injured." She could have had a shot at getting the Title back. Miss Sweetness and Light (AKA Daddy's Little Girl) v. Miss Wonderful was a much better match than we could have hoped for. Neither of them are wrestlers but they both showed again that they are willing to take bumps and give it their all. Our Manners and Fork Placement Ambassador had instructions from Emperor McMahon and screwed them up. Not understanding what was as clear as midnight on a foggy London night, he first aided Miss Wonderful, then Mrs. HHH, allowing Mrs. HHH to get the victory. Showing she wasn't a lady to be trifled with, Miss Wonderful gave him five across his ugly face. Showing he wasn't a gentleman, he nailed her and put Mrs. HHH over her* for the cover. His reward for being such a cad - a match on RAW tonight with Mrs. HHH as his partner v. Miss Wonderful and Emperor Vince. I suspect he now understands the instructions quite well. Note to Regal: You never nail the lady the boss is nailing. *15,000 men in the audience were heard saying "Why couldn't that be me?" The Triple Threat Tag Team Table Match (say that fast five times) pitting Momma Doodle's favorite little Boyz, Bubba Ray and D-Von (C) v. The Dead and Undead v. The Canadian Comics, was also a good match. With JR and The King telling us for the last week that there was no way The Taker and Kane could lose, we knew they wouldn't win. The match had power, wrestling and high flying action. There was as much action outside the ring as there was inside. Never bet against The Dudley's if there is a table in the same county. There was. The Dudley's kept the Titles. The WWF has never had a stronger tag team roster. It's so strong that we are going to see the break up of a couple very soon. No idea who they will be, but does Lita and two brothers ring a bell? The WWF Championship Match between Our American Olympic Zero (C) and The People's Champion, was a four star winner. On it's own, it could very well be a Match Of The Year candidate. Both took and gave their best. Each kicked out of the others finisher. The Rock fought off The Ankle Submission Hold. There were more 2 7/8 counts than people in attendance at NITRO. After this match any concerns about Zero should be gone. He showed he can go the distance and stay with the best. He didn't have his brother, Edge or Christian getting involved. The match had the crowd on the edge of their seat throughout. Well worth the price of admission. I was even ready to drop the name "Zero," until he pulled his Nancy Kerrigan act. Zero goes with crying like Dirtbag Doophus Page goes with Slimeball. The two-out-of-three falls match between Stone Cold Steve Austin (SCSA) and HHH was one of the best matches you will ever see. It had everything and more. They put on a show that will long be remembered. Both bled like stuck pigs, with SCSA leaving more blood in the ring and at ringside than he took with him. We saw a board wrapped in barbed wire (Foley's old toy), HHH's sledge hammer, the ring bell, chairs, beer cans, and anything else they could get their hands on used. HHH took a back drop from the announcers table thru the Spanish announcers table (Ay caramba!). It wasn't who won, it was who survived. The match met every expectation and more. When they look back at 2001, this match will be on everyone's list as Match Of The Year. If you taped it, save it. It was the kind of match you can watch over and over and not get tired of. HHH was The 2000 Wrestler Of The Year; this match keeps him on the 2001 List, along with SCSA. Two men couldn't have given any more than these two did. What a night! What can The WWF do to top it? As the last PPV before Wrestlemania, it had to be good, and it was. The Main Event at Wrestlemania is SCSA v. The Rock as most expected. If they put on the kind of match each did tonight, we are in for one hell of a Main Event.
