Matthews and York were rumored to sign with WCW and participate in the Cruiserweight Tag Team division, but it is not true. No word on how long the deal is for or if it is just developmental. Regarding the future of former ECW stars Christian York & Joey Matthews. The contract they have with the WWF is a developmental deal, and the duo will be heading to Memphis Championship Wrestling in the near future. How they fare in Memphis will determine when they will appear on WWF television. (1wrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **This past Thursday's edition of WWF SmackDown! scored a 4.5 rating with a 6.8 share. **William Regal is returning back to action pain-free after suffering a bulging disc in his back. The injury kept Regal out of action for several weeks and forced him to only participate in interviews. Regal worked on Smackdown against Test and against Steve Bradley the next night for MCW. He reported "no problems whatsoever" after both matches. To read an article on Regal and his condition, click http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1037373?page=2 **Chris Jericho has updated his online commentary over at ChrisJericho.com. This week Y2J speaks about his upcoming match at No Way Out, his Ebay auction, Moongoose McQueen, and how he's been relaxing. To read, click the link http://www.chrisjericho.com/commentary.htm **News and notes from the latest Ross Report: - He goes over his schedule withteh XFL and wrestling. He also does his job and hypes teh PPV. - Scotty 2 Hotty is having problems with what we think is a pinched nerve in his neck. He will take it easy for the next couple of weeks. - William Regal's neck problem is much better as evidenced by his SmackDown! match with Test. I am personally very happy for Regal because of the way he has gotten his life and career back on track. - Bob Holly's surgically repaired broken arm is giving him some problems but is not expected to keep him out of action at this time. I assure you this guy is plenty tough. - Y2J is doing physical therapy to ease the pain of a herniated disc in his lower back. - Justin Credible, whose name still may change (WHY!??!?!), is a welcome addition to our roster. He and X-Pac could form a super duo, in my opinion. - Some unique storylines are being discussed and should be in place, to some degree, as we head to WrestleMania. After WrestleMania, several new storylines will definitely be introduced. - Jerry Lynn has signed his Federation contract but does not have a start date as I am writing this. Jerry is a veteran hand who brings a great deal of talent and professionalism to the Federation. - My lobbying for the light heavyweight division seems to be falling on deaf ears but I'll keep singing their praises until I'm told to leave it alone. - Rhino, whose name may also be changed (understandable), had a solid dark match in Kansas City this week. This kid is in his early 20s, has lost about 20 pounds and looks to be in excellent condition. He will start on TV in the next few weeks. Rhino should grow into a main eventer here in time. - A couple of my remarks in this column have been criticized in the last week and after reading the critiques of the wrestling media, I can see where they are coming from. I meant no malice, however, I will be more selective in what I write in the future. Sometimes, as I am learning, the truth on some matters are better left unsaid. - We have had talks about next year's WrestleMania site and I think our fans will like the final selection. - One of the nicer things said about yours truly's XFL announcing was written this week in USA Today. I was compared to the Dukes of Hazzard's Boss Hogg! Was it the hat or the accent? Nothing to do about these shots but to keep working hard. - Stone Cold will guest on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" prior to WrestleMania. (Cred: the law, ultimowrestling, 1wrestling, wwf.com) _______________ [News from WCW] **The vignettes that aired for Kid Romeo this week on Nitro were filmed last year. After filming, WCW released Romeo, but have now decided to bring him back to strengthen the Cruiserweight division. Romeo is a Power Plant graduate. **You can win a trip to WCW's "Spring Break Out" in Panama City Beach, Florida by entering a contest at WCW.COM. To enter the contest, click http://www.wcw.com/2001/promos/03/sbo **The following matches have been announced for this coming Monday's edition of WCW Nitro: - Shane Helms will take on Shannon Moore. - Dustin Rhodes vs Jeff Jarrett with Ric Flair as the Guest Refeee. - Ernest Miller will have an announcement that will "affect the very structure of WCW from top-to-bottom." Also on the show, DDP will do a shoot interview, similar to Shane Douglas' last week on Thunder, where Page will discuss the real life history between him and Scott Steiner. **Paul Heyman has agreed to give Kid Kash his official release from ECW so that he can work for WCW. **Shane Helms will continue to star in the singles cruiserweight division, and besides wrestling Chavo Guerrero Jr at WCW Greed, he will have singles matches against Rey Mysterio Jr and Kidman in the upcoming weeks. **The proposed WCW shutdown almost certainly isn't going to take place as they have started looking for buildings to book for their April shows. (Cred: the law, ultimowrestling, 1wrestling) _______________ [News from ECW] **Bill Alfonso and Angel of The Baldies Talk Bill Alfonso was the in studio guest for Chair Shots wrestling radio shots on WBLQ FM 88.1 out of Rhode Island. I almost had the motivation to watch Thunder this week, but then my roommate had Temptation Island on, and I was too lazy to get up and go to the TV lounge in my dorm. It is pretty sad when I'd rather sit through temptation island then watch Thunder. Anyway, after that rave you get the idea that this week's winner is coming from the WWF, since WCW's big highlight was DDP coming out of the crowd to challenge Scot Steiner. Then there was Jeff Jarrett's set-up of Dustin Rhodes, that was decent, but how many times do we need to see Jeff Jarrett hit someone with a guitar? So we are off to the WWF, Triple H beats up JR (yawn) I think I have finally gotten bored with this Triple H/Austin feud. There was one event on RAW that wreaked of awesomeness, granted the feud has been going on since WrestleMania 2000, but at least it was a pretty nice set up. I am of course talking about this week's winners... Edge and Christian E&C's set up of both the Dudleys and of Undertaker and Kane was great. Undertaker is left beaten, Kane gets the chairshots and the Dudleys are the Taker's number one enemies because of what he thinks they did to his bike. So I would say that E&C are very deserving of the award this week, now lets just see if their plan works to regain the tag titles Sunday. Somehow I doubt it... They have given a clinic in how to set up matches for a PPV and generate interest in buying it. Taking a look back over the past month we find: 1. Stone Cold Steve Austin (SCSA) v. HHH - What more could be said about how this match has developed. It has roots back to SCSA being run down by a then unknown assailant, who we have since found out to be The Ass That Devoured Rosie and Roseanne, working for HHH. SCSA has gone thru The Largest Ass On The Planet, aiming for HHH. HHH has again proven why he was 2000 Wrestler Of The Year, showing disdain for SCSA and a hatred as believable as possible. Emperor McMahon set up a Stipulation that if either touched the other before NWO, both would suffer, that helped build tensions. With HHH winning the right to pick the kind of match, and making it two-out-of-three falls, things really heated up. In fact, this match has been built up as good as, if not better than, any match I can remember. Having Daddy's Little Slut involved added foam to the beer. This should prove to be a classic. 2. Our American Olympic Zero (C) v. The Rock for the WWF Championship. This match pits two of the top mic handlers against each other. They have waged war with their mouths and fists. Zero has applied an ankle submission lock (shades of Nutso) on The Rock and The Rock has introduced Zero to The Sharpshooter (you don't suppose Bret.... nah). Most people have written Zero off, figuring The Rock is headed towards a showndown with SCSA at Wrestlemania. That match will probably take place, but don't count our favorite milk drinker out. I wouldn't put it past The Emperor to pull a swerve and see Zero pull out yet another win. The Rock still has more than a month to win the Title and SCSA. 3. The Tag Team Title will be a Tables Match, pitting The Acme Table and Steel Chair Company's best customers The Dudley Boyz (C) v. The Undertaker and Kane v. Two Thirds of Team ECK, E and C. The match has IMHO the best pure tag team in the world, Momma Dudley's two little Boyz, Bubba Ray and D-Von, meeting probably the biggest and baddest tag team ever, The Dead and Almost Dead Man, and Canada's most famous export, the comedy team of Edge and Christian. The Dudley's put tables on the map; The Taker and Kane made Choke Slamming an Olympic Sport; and E and C have done more for Kodak than 35 mm cameras. This match has the potential to be memorable. 4. The Bowery Bum (C) will face The Big Slow, putting up the Hardcore Championship, with The Bum's Lady Ninja lurking somewhere. We have seen Slow destroying the WWF roster, including The Bum over the past month. That probably means The Bum will retain the Title. The kicker to this match is whether we will find out who The Lady is. Is it Torrie? (as most think); is it one of ECW's ladies? is it someone new? My bet is we are not going to find out quite yet, but she will help Bum keep the Title. Then again, with the 24/7 rule in effect, you never know who may get involved and win the Title. 5. Miss Sweetness and Light v. Miss Wonderful. Will Daddy's Little Girl (DLG) get revenge for the Manure Bath she took on SmackDown? With Emperor Vince and Trish doing the nasty and DLG not real happy about it, the match has been built up quite nicely. The match will have a hard time being as good as the build up. You have to hand it to DLG, taking one for the team the way she did. It may not have really been Road Apples, but doing it at all says a lot about her. 6. Last and for sure not least, The King v. The Turd, with Kat showing skin if The King wins. I hear rumors that The Turd's friends will be restrained by 18,000 screaming fans if they try to interfere. The Kat wants to show it; we want to see it. Think The King will allow his Queen to give us a show? She gave us a quickie once before, so watch your screen for the tell tale "N." If you see the "N," you see The Kat. All in all, NWO shapes up to be a great show. Hopefully it will live up to its promise. If it does, it will be $29.95 + tax well spent.
