He gave NBC's Matt Vasgersian a C+, Jesse Ventura a C-, Jim Ross a D, and Jerry Lawler an F. His evaluations, though, could have been based on conventional widsom word of mouth and highlights on cable sports shows. "Ross, whose regular job is on the WWF, described the Chicago-Orlando game as a 'slobberknocker.'" That's was all he wrote about Ross. Regarding Lawler, he said that Lawler "stooped to all-time low groveling over the cheerleaders, claiming he was in 'the land of milk and honeys.'" He said Ventura avoided a D because of occasional quips, but otherwise didn't know names and oversold how much fun the fans were having. Martzke also put a damper on the celebration of the 10.3 rating the XFL did. The USFL, with much bigger names and budget, drew a 14.3 opening game rating, but sunk consistently from then on and eventually folded. (PWTorch.com) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **Eric Angle, Kurt's older brother, is starting to train under his WWF developmental deal with Dan Briley in Louisville. **Harvey Wippleman and The Brooklyn Brawler will be hosting this Thursday's Smackdown party at WWF New York. **Lita is booked to appear on the February 14th edition of "Open Mike with Mike Bullard", which airs in Canada on CTV and The Comedy Network. Lita will also be a guest on TSN's "Off The Record" in the near future. **Killer Kowalski had some choice words for Chyna's new book. The injury was suffered a week ago during a match with Rick Steiner. Douglas is expected to be out for a significant period of time and his match with Rick Steiner at Superbrawl has been canceled. Douglas dropped the US strap on Nitro because of the injury. (Cred: lwn) _______________ [News from ECW] **ECW's Chilly Willy was hospitalized over the weekend for an emergency appendectomy, however he is expected to make a full recovery. **Vic Grimes, formerly of ECW, made his XPW debut in Reseda, California this past weekend. (Cred: ultimowrestling) __________________ [In other news...] **Mark Madden announced that he will have his "Wrestling Hour" segment this Friday from 7:00pm - 8:00pm on WEAE 1250AM radio Pittsburgh, PA. He would not elaborate on what he would discuss, but he has not had a "Wrestling Hour" show for several months. WEAE Radio is available to listen to on the Internet at http://www.wtaeradio.com. Last month, Madden mentioned that he would talk about his firing from WCW when he received his last paycheck from WCW at the end of January. It's past that time and Madden is likely to be able to talk freely about WCW on Friday. **Sunday's XFL game on UPN with San Francisco vs. Los Angeles drew a 4.2 rating on the overnights, which beat out the NHL All-Star game at 2.4. It should be noted that it'll probably translate to about a 2.7 to 3.0 number when the final rating is in, which despite the hype, is exactly what the pre-show projections were. WWF was selling ads at first based on an 11.0 combined rating, which was 5.5 on NBC, 3.0 on UPN and 2.5 on TNN. The first week, because of NBC, will handily beat it, but if the UPN game is already below a 3.0 when the national number comes in tomorrow, it can't be considered a good sign. Not a terrible sign, but not a good sign. The Pro Bowl was a big loser, dropping from an 8.7 rating last year, which was the lowest rated Pro Bowl in history, to a 5.8 this year.
