(AP) - The World Wrestling Federation has outgrown its headquarters and is seeking new office space. Employment at the sports entertainment company, which is part owner of the XFL, has doubled the past four years to 400 people, spokesman Judd Everhart said. "We are growing very rapidly with the addition of the XFL and a new record label called Smackdown Records,'' Everhart said Wednesday. Everhart said the WWF needs a facility that could combine its headquarters and TV studio, but did not give a timetable for the move. The company is currently centered in a 92,900-square-foot, eight- story building. Employees are shuttled between the headquarters and a 38,000-square-foot television studio. Stamford officials are hopeful the WWF will stay. "We are certainly going to do whatever we can do to keep a successful and growing company like the WWF in our city,'' said Stephen MacKenzie, the city director of economic development. The show peaked between 9:30 - 10:00 with a 6.1. UPN finished fourth in the network race, behind NBC, CBS, and ABC. Survivor had an 18.0 composite. Friends on NBC had a 16.6. **If you're planning on sending in a tape for the WWF's Tough Enough contest, the deadline has been extended to February 10th, 2001. **There are strong rumors that WCW will add Dusty and Dustin Rhodes vs. Ric Flair and Animal to the Superbrawl PPV card. **When X-Pac returns to WWF house shows this weekend, he is expected to work a program against Chris Benoit. **The WWF is trying to schedule back-to-back shows at Madison Square Garden for RAW and Smackdown after the King of the Ring PPV in June. (Cred: lwn, the law, ultimo) _______________ [News from WCW] **World Championship Wrestling announced today that they will be combining their April and May pay-per-views into one show. The pay- per-view will air on May 6, 2001. Speculation is that this is when WCW will close down and work on re- launching the company under Eric Bischoff and Fusient Media. **WCW Thunder kept up with it's recent average, scoring a 2.2 composite off hours of 2.2 and 2.1. Thunder has seen a 2.2 rating the last four weeks. **Dave Scherer reports WCW has released Tygress, Paisley, Major Gunns, Daffney, and Leia Meow. With new management, Eric Bischoff's vision of the company apparently does not include any women in key roles. At least two of the above have called other wrestling organizations seeking work, but it is unknown which two. **Reports surfaced earlier this week that there may have been a possible rift between Evan Karagias and WCW based on the fact that Karagias was scheduled to work a four-way Cruiserweight match on Nitro and was absent. WCW.COM reports Karagias was taken off the show and sent home because of a flu virus. In a press release, the Army stated today that they have a new ad campaign that will debut during Saturday's XFL football game. We'll see how long it takes the PTC to target the XFL. (Cred: lwn) ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] XFL Encourages Gambling It appears that the WWF has adopted yet another new approach when it comes to promoting the XFL. While the NFL does not encourage gambling on football games or want any association with it, the XFL is going to go the other way and embrace the betting that is an essential part of pro sports. The league did a mock "scrimmage" at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas that was attended by about 30 bookmakers. "They want the business", said Vince McMahon. "Rather than hide it like the NFL does and say we don't want to encourage betting, we're going to talk about Vegas because that's part of the game." Rich Rose, former president of the sports book at Caesar's Palace, who's now an XFL consultant echoed McMahon's sentiments. "Leagues need bookmakers because it adds legitimacy, which is the biggest problem we have, and we need to get bookmakers all the information we can to help them do their job." Even with all this publicity, it will still be hard for the XFL to really make a dent in all the major betting that surrounds professional sports. According to Jeff Sherman, manager of Regent Race and Sports Book, legal wagering on professional and amateur sports events amounts to more than $2 billion a year, with betting on the NFL accounting for more than 40 percent of that total. "The best the XFL could hope for, if they grow and expand", he says "is maybe 5 percent of the business. It's probably starting off closer to 1 percent." (Yahoo!
