The feature was fair and extensive. In my opinion, this is the best and most poignant article ever written on the family. SN's web exclusive features the statements of Ellie Neidhart opposing the family's lawsuit in the death of Owen. This stuff is as interesting as it is sad. Rock then returned to the ring, and he and Austin went face to face, but no blows were exchanged (despite the crowd going nuts), then Rock turned to leave. Austin got him to come back to the ring, and gave the Rock a few beers. Both men acknowledged the crowd, then Rock left, and Austin hit all four corners one last time before leaving. **Too Cool and K-Kwik will be hosting tonight's RAW Is WAR party at WWF New York. **The Big Show has apparently lost 72lbs upon making his WWF return last night at the Royal Rumble. He is currently at 418lbs and wants to get down to around 380lbs. He has announced he is back with the WWF full-time. He has signed a contract with the WWF. He gave the WCW Hardcore Title to The Barbarian, and made his way to the Royal Rumble. Both Nitro and Thunder will be taped tonight in Winston-Salem, but due to a movie, Nitro will be airing tomorrow night while Thunder airs in its usual Wednesday night time slot. Raw airs in its usual time slot live from Lafayette, LA and the Cajun Dome. **A&E will be doing its show "Behind Closed Doors with Joan Lunden" about training to be a pro wrestler at the Power Plant airing for the first time on 2/1 at 9 p.m. Eastern time. (Cred: dave meltzer) _______________ [News from ECW] **Tommy Dreamer is scheduled to appear at several upcoming IWA shows in Puerto Rico. The IWA was hoping to book a series of matches between Dreamer and Rob Van Dam, but they have yet to strike a deal with RVD. (Cred: ultimo) __________________ [In other news...] **WCW star Major Gunns and wrestling legend King Kong Bundy will be in attendance this coming weekend at the Toronto Speedorama show on the Exhibition grounds. They'll be signing autographs both Saturday and Sunday. (Cred: ) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Rounding The Squared Circle "ROYAL RUMBLE REALLY ROCKED - RATES RAVES" OR "GOOD OLD ERIC HAS TWENTY MILES OF BAD ROAD AHEAD" The WWF made a very serious mistake last night with the Royal Rumble (RR). They set a standard and gave us a PPV that will be a tough act to follow. All future PPV's will be measured against it. It shows just how big a job Good Old Eric (GOE) has ahead of him if he hopes to make WCW competitive. The boys (and girls) were into it, the crowd was into it, and the announcers were into it. It showed. With the exception of the Women's Championship Match, the card was outstanding from start to end. There were laughs and surprises in addition to great matches. Other than that, they only negative things I saw were a wasted appearance by Drew Carey plugging a PPV and Princess Stephanie's garish make-up job that made her look like an Egyptian Princess. Let's take a look at each match: Tag Team Title Match: Edge and Christian (C) v. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and DeVon) - These four have met several times and know each other almost as well as Bubba Ray knows which end of the jug to swig from. The Champions did the dastardly best to punish Dudleyville's most famous citizens by concentrating on their concussionized heads. DeVon spent a good part of the match looking like he had been kicked in the head by Grandma Dudley's prize mule. For his part. Bubba Ray wasn't sure if he was in New Orleans or back slopping Grandma's hogs. However, they cleared their heads and eventually made Grandma happy as they hit a 3-D Dudley Death Drop on poor Christian. When he wakes up next Wednesday to the smell of Canadian Bacon and Eggs, he'll find out they are no long the Champions. I questioned Edge and Christian as viable heels. Not your standard big, ugly, hairy types, (can anyone say "Albert?") they showed hunks can get the job done. In the words of that famed Canadian gap toothed philospher, "They proved me wrong." Everyone is invited to the celebration in Beautiful Downtown Lower Dudleyville. Formal dress optional. Drew Carey made an appearance in HHH and Princess Stephanie's dressing room and was sent to see Trish Stratus. After trying and failing miserably hitting on Trish (not to worry Drew, Lewis and Oswald will be proud), Emperor Vince later rewarded his efforts by giving him a spot in the Rumble. I understand a Public Service message directing where to send his remains wasn't shown due to technical difficulties. Before the next match Crash visited the Headquarters of The APA and told Farooq and Bradshaw that despite their friendship, he was duty bound to kick both their a*ses in the RR. They almost missed the RR choking on their third case of Steveweisers. To bad the little guy was born with excess balls and no brains. Next up was the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match pitting The Canadian Chris's against each other, Gap Tooth (C) v. Y2J. This match was all it was expected to be ... and more. Shawn Michaels set the standard for Ladder Matches, and the standard just moved up. They hit each other in every part of their anatomies with the ladder, throwing in assorted chair shots. Being two of the best wrestlers anywhere only served to make this match better. They took and gave equally, selling each others moves to perfection. It's a shame there had to be a loser, but alas there was. After Surviving The Crippler Cross Face and knocking Gap Tooth out on the floor with the ladder for what seemed like the 50th time, Y2J climbed the ladder and claimed the Championship. One can one wonder about a Triple Threat Ladder Match that included Michaels. Next up was The Women's Championship Match, pitting Chyna v. Ivory in a Handicap Match. Ivory brought three boobs to the ring with her (Steven and her own two). To the surprise of no one, Chyna kicked Ivory's aging butt up one side of Bourbon Street and down the other. Showing his Three I's (Ignorance, Impatience and Idiocy), Steven got involved and Chyna shoved him up his own Candy A*s. The match ended with Chyna apparently blowing the end of her Handspring Elbow and collapsed. With Steven's aid, Ivory covered her and retained her Title. This was followed by the standard trip out to the waiting ambulance. Sorry, but it looks like we are going to be forced to watch more bad acting by Chyna. Why the WWF has her involved in the Women's Division is a mystery. Why they are force feeding us this crapola is a bigger one. This was a blemish on an otherwise stellar night. WWF Title Match Time, featuring America's Poster Boy for 2% Milk and The Man Of The Three I's, (did I mention he's a virgin)? Our American Zero (C), accompanied by the woman men most want to see in Playboy, Trish Stratus, v. HHH, accompanied by his wife, Princess Stephanie. The crowd (well, at least I was) was hoping for a cat fight between Daddy's Little Girl and Daddy's 'Girl.' Another great match with both men holding nothing back. HHH concentrated on Zero's right leg and had him squealing like one of Grandma Dudley's piggies. With Zero screaming in pain while stuck in a Figure Four, Trish climbed the apron and tried to free him. Predictable result: The cat fight we wanted. The fought on the floor and went over the announcers table. Emperor Vince came down to pull them apart. ("Asshole" "Asshole"). This didn't make too many people happy. As soon as he got them apart, they went back at it. He carried Trish away on his shoulder, as The Princess kept fighting with her. Seems like The Boss figures he's the only one that can "spank" Trish. Both men came close to pins, but the referee was cutting ZZZ's as a result of getting clocked. HHH went out to try to revive him so he could count. Bad Mistake. He was bitten by a rare breed of West Texas Rattlesnake (actually he ate the Title Belt, courtesy of a gentleman from West Texas). Not satisfied with his handiwork, Stone Cold Steve Austin (SCSA) hit HHH with a Stunner. That was all Zero needed. Cover, pin, victory, retains Title. He plans on inviting SCSA over for milk and cookies later this week. Zero with a "clean" win. Will wonder ever cease? HHH was not among the happy people. Royal Rumble Time. Winner goes to Wrestlemania to meet the WWF Champion in the Main Event. This Rumble was unique. It featured a "Mini Hardcore Rumble" within it, as all the known Hardcore suspects ended up in the ring at one time. Raven, Al Snow (sans Head), Crash, Hardcore Holly, Tazz and Steve Blackman. Only problem was that Kane was there also. Tazz made a cameo appearance, getting thrown out in five seconds. I guess they don't hold Royal Rumbles in Red Hook. Drew Carey got to face Kane by himself. Kane did his Fire And Brimstone Pyro; Carey Browned his Pants. He avoided Kane like he had Bubonic Plague, offering him a bribe not to kill him, and soon eliminated himself. The Honky Tonk Man made a surprise visit and sang us a song. Kane wasn't entertained and fed him his guitar. Other surprise entrants included The Big (No longer too) Slow and Haku (aka Meng). Meng is the latest to desert WCW and GOE's new enterprise. Terri accompanied Saturn to the ring almost wearing something to cover her plastic enhancements. She distracted 19,000 fans and several wrestlers. All right Terri. It didn't help Saturn as he was soon eliminated. Damn! Just about the entire WWF roster was involved, with The Undertaker and Kane working as a team, until The Taker was thrown out. The Rock was in for a long time, being No.13; while Kane was in well over an hour, coming in at No 6. SCSA was No. 27, and found out that paybacks are a bitch as HHH attacked him on his way to the ring and mugged him. He left SCSA a bloody mess and walked away. We will see them soon (How about he next PPV)? Rikishi was No. 30, but it didn't help him. The last three remaining were SCSA, The Rock and Kane. They fought one hell of a Triple Threat Match. Kane threw The Rock out and then there were two. Kane took a shot to His Soldiers and went to the floor none too happy. He brought a chair in, but SCSA nailed him with a Stunner and got hold of the chair. He nailed Kane in the head with it three times. He will be seeing the same doctor as The Dudley Boyz. SCSA eliminated Kane and it was all over. To the surprise of very few, a bloodied SCSA will face the WWF Champion at Wrestlemania. A rumored Main Event for No Way Out, the next PPV, will be The Rock v. Zero for the Title. Can you smell The Rock v. SCSA at Wrestlemania? Thus ended one great PPV. One hopes GOE was watching. He will need shows like this bring WCW back. It wont be easy.
