The "Sin" PPV will take place this Sunday, followed by Nitro and Thunder tapings on Monday, but after that the promotion could shut down at anytime to regroup. (The Law) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **Dave Scherer reports Chyna held a conference call, here are the highlights: - She, as well as the rest of the WWF have no comment on the sale of WCW. - Her book officially hits stores January 30th. - When asked about her comments last year on "Off the Record" that Trish Stratus got by on her looks, she said that she stands by what she said. She feels that some people have paid more dues in the business than others, but did say that she thought Trish was a very sweet person and had no ill will towards her. - The issue of Playboy sporting Chyna on the cover is the best selling issue of the past 11 years, another appearance is quite possible. - On getting respect from the men she said it was horrible and it was not a fun experience. It was a lot of dealing with egos, and men that thought she was hired for her look. She said she earned respect from the Austin's and Undertaker's more quickly, and they helped her. The undercard guys were tougher to get respect from, and they saw her more as a threat. - On working with Triple H and their personal relationship. She says that people assumed things about them as a couple but she doesn't talk about it and neither does he. She prefers to keep her personal life to herself. Said that Triple H and Shawn Michaels really helped her in the ring, and she feels he is the best in the business today. - Thinks the DX gimmick is over. She feels all the characters have evolved and can't see putting it back together. - Would not see winning the women's title as a step down after being Intercontinental champion. - Five years from now, she sees more women in the business. If they start now, they will be experienced wrestlers then. - Four or five years from now, she sees herself evolving with the WWF, and will stay with it for as long as she can. - She loved working with Eddie Guerrero. He allowed her to evolve as a character and show different emotions on television. Eddie put her over like a million bucks, and was almost too selfless in the ring. Likes working against him more than with him though, as she learns more form him that way. - Was proud to be the first women to hold a major male singles title. Was honored that they gave her the chance and had her doubts how the fans would accept it, but was pleasantly surprised by their reaction. - Enjoys watching Triple H and Rock's matches, and misses watching Mick Foley's bouts. She said no one is a slacker in today's WWF. **The WWF has opened a subsite for William Regal at http://www.wwfsites.com/regal/ **The WWF has published a feature article on the up-and-coming Ron "H2O" Waterman from Ohio Valley Wrestling. To view the article, click http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1027089 **Dean Malenko is expected to be off WWF TV for a few weeks to let his injured knee heal. As noticeable on RAW, they did an angle where the Hardy Boyz attacked his knee with a table and chair to put him out of commission. **After what happened on RAW where William Regal attacked Test, it may turn out to be Regal vs. Test at the Royal Rumble for the European Championship. **Mother Faye Dudley apparently sustained a legitimate injury when she was attacked by her "sons" on RAW last Monday. Her current condition is unknown. They recently signed a deal that will see them working with WCW for five more years. **Eric Bischoff continues to make the rounds discussing the sale of World Championship Wrestling as he will be a special guest on Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Live on 1/12. The show airs from 6-8pm EST on Eyada.com. **Eric Bischoff is strongly rumored to go after some ECW talent whose contracts with ECW are easy to get out of. **It looks like Stacy Kiebler has not been fired afterall, due to a salary problem as previously reported. It looks like they are just holding her off TV until the pregnancy angle blows over and the WCW creative team may put her in a fresh angle sometime soon. **Disco will announce this coming weekend's WCW Sin PPV. **There is expected to be another big surprise at Sin, besides the revelation of the mystery opponent. (Cred: The Law, Ultimowrestling) _______________ [News from ECW] **In Rob Van Dam's latest audio commentary at RobVan Dam.com, RVD has said that although he did return to ECW for the PPV, his long-term future in ECW is still up in the air. **Lou E. Dangerously has updated his online commentary at ECWDangerously.com (Cred: ultimo) __________________ [In other news...] **Rumors have it that Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan might be announcing the February 4th Women of Wrestling PPV. **Thomas Umstead of Multichannel News wrote a story yesterday where he said sources have told him that sale price of WCW was 75 million dollars. I am not sure if he has a source for that figure, or whether he is going off of the numbers that the wrestlers were talking about at Nitro last week, which most people I spoke with say were mentioned in a joking manner. (Cred: Ultimo, 1wrestling) ______________________________________________________________________ [Article] Highlights of Eric Bischoff on WCW Live Here are some of the highlights from new WCW president Eric Bischoff's appearance on WCW Live on 1/11: He said they may not air any TV for a two week period somewhere in the near future to regroup, but that no concrete decision had been made in that regard. He claimed that Hulk Hogan would not be booking for WCW, but that Hogan still was a viable brand name in wrestling. He also claimed that Mandalay Sports were never part of the group considering to buy WCW, but that he still maintains a relationship with Mandalay owner Peter Guber. He said that he even though he has a financial stake in the ownership of WCW, Fusient handled the business end of the deal that was made. He also feels that Fusient will help further strengthen WCW's internet presence. He said that he wanted to develop new talent but that someone like Scott Hall might be given a chance to come back if he could meet the personal challenges in front of him. He had no comment on Vince Russo and what happened to Hulk Hogan at the Bash at the Beach, even though he said he felt strongly about what had happened there. He maintained that the whole situation had gotten legal, so he didn't want to talk about it. He seemed unhappy with the way WCW had tried the raunchier WWF style approach and that it was "cheap heat". At one point, he said, that the WWF had passed them by, but that he now had the creative people he needed to compete. One of the last things he did for WCW was bring in Johnny Ace and he was glad that he was still there since he was a definite asset. He wasn't sure if he would have an on camera role in WCW storylines, but he did talk about how it was tough for the announcers to get excited about the current product. They would also try changing the sets again on the PPVs and maybe Nitro and Thunder too. He said Goldberg will be a star for WCW, but that they had made a mistake by turning him heel when and how they did with too much of a publicized build up to it. Instead of raiding leagues like ECW for talent, Bischoff said he wants to build talent from scratch. He also wants to get the Cruiserweight division going again too. He said he didn't know if WCW would become a public company, but they do want to continue to tap into foreign markets. Bischoff acknowledged his bad reputation for spending money, but he still feels that bringing in people like Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman did help at the time. He won't have anything to do with the Sin PPV this weekend, but he did put over Scott Steiner, even though he knows he's a volatile person. In terms of talent, he also mentioned that he had talked to Sting and that Sting had some new ideas for his character. Bischoff maintains that Sting is an important part of WCW's future. On a final talent note, Bischoff said there was no immediate plans to bring back Randy Savage or Roddy Piper. (The Law) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Vile Thoughts - by The Vile Saturday, January 13th, 2001. Approximately 11:43 PM. Ric Flair is in his hotel on one knee, apparantly looking for a little divine intervention...... "Dear God. My name is Richard Fleihr. You might know me by my professional name, Nature Boy Ric Flair. With my glorious wrestling career behind me, the company I helped to build put me in their figurehead position. My job is to get the fans hyped up over angles, Monday Nitros, and pay-per-views. The problem is almost everybody thinks WCW is about as exciting as watching snow melt. We've had a rich and storied tradition. Guys like Dusty Rhodes, Buddy Rogers, myself, Ricky Steamboat, the Road Warriors, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Lex Luger; we've all made this company a force to be reckoned with. Or so I thought." "We have a pay-per-view tomorrow night called Sin. Sorry about that. Anyway, we have a great 4 corners match as our main event, and no one seems to care. I mean Scott Steiner is a great champ, and he's taking on Jeff Jarrett, Sid Vicious, and a mystery man. Now I know Sid gets distracted anytime he sees a softball bat, and everyone is sick of "the chosen one", and everyone has already guessed that the "mystery man" is Rick Steiner, but I still think that it will be a great match. You have 4 of the premier wrestlers in the world today going at it for the richest prize in sports entertainment; what could be better?" "Huh? Well, I don't have Austin, Rock, Rikishi, Undertaker, Angle, Triple H, or a Hell in a Cell, whatever that is. Why does everyone always bring up the WWF? We beat them for 88 straight weeks in the ratings. Okay, so maybe that ended when the 49'ers were still a good football team, but that's beside the point." "What's that? Why not have Steiner face Lance Storm or Shane Douglas? Oh come on. Those guys aren't big names. We have to keep the big names in the big events. You say that's how guys get big names? Well, maybe you're right, I don't know. It was just easier when it was WCW vs. NWO." " The undercard should be exciting as well, headlined by such matches as the Cat vs. Mike Sanders, DDP and Nash against the Thrillers, and General Rection vs. the Franchise. Yeah, maybe the Douglas/Rection match might be better than the main event, but we've got the stars, baby. What? No Major Gunns isn't wrestling. No, Miss Hancock isn't either. Yes, it's true we fired Torrie Wilson, so what? We've got Daffney!!" "Anyway, the WWF is having their Royal Rumble next weekend, and we need a strong showing so we don't get killed for yet another month. I was hoping maybe you could give me the strength to see this through; to put matches and angles together that people will like. In other words, I don't want to be out on the street." "God?" "God, can you hear me?" "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!" "Oh man, It's worse than I thought." VILE'S TOTALLY ANAL TRIVIA: Congratulations to Jason Myers who correctly identified Bob Bradley as the Battle Cat. This week's question: We know that the promotions copy ideas from time to time, and here's another. In 1987, for one match, the NWA had their own "Dream Team". Name the two wrestlers that comprised this unit and besmirched the names of Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake.
