The NY/NJ Hitmen had 216,000 compared to 230,000 combined for The New York Jets and New York Giants websites and The San Francisco Demons drew 161,000 unique visitors compared to The San Francisco 49ers, who only got 145,000 unique visitors. The article takes in to account the fact, however, that the NFL visitors stay at those sites much longer because there is more content available than on the XFL sites. (The Law) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from The WWF] **The New Year's Day edition of WWF "Raw is War" did a 4.55 rating with a 6.9 share, which is up from last week. Hour 1: 4.3 (Q hours of: 3.9, 4.1, 4.3 and 5.0) Hour 2: 4.7 (Q hours of: 4.8, 4.7, 4.8, 4.7 and an overrun of 4.6) The highest rated wrestling segment was the Kurt Angle, Edge & Christian vs The Dudley Boyz and Chris Jericho match which scored a 4.8. In other numbers from the weekend, "Livewire" did a 1.0 rating, "Superstars" did a 0.63 rating and "Sunday Night Heat" did a 1.66 rating. **Here is what to expect on tonight's Smackdown: - Chris Benoit will defend his Intercontinental title against Chris Jericho. - Bull Buchanan & Goodfather vs the Dudley Boys for a shot at Edge & Christian at the Royal Rumble. - Kurt Angle will take on The Rock in a non-title match. - Terri & Saturn vs Lita & Matt Hardy in a mixed tag match. - Billy Gunn vs Val Venis. - In a No. 1 Contender match, William Regal vs Undertaker vs Kane. **WWF The Music: Volume 5 will be released on Tuesday, February 6th as a special "enhanced CD" package. Some suggestions have been Konnan, Mike Tenay and Stevie Ray. However last night on WCW Live!, creative director Ed Ferrara stated that they are seriously considering bringing it back to a 2-man team with just Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson. **Grease, which aired in the place of Nitro, scored a 1.7 rating, with a 2.5 share. Nitro most probably would have done a better number. (Cred: UltimoWrestling, 1wrestling) _______________ [News from ECW] **1wrestling.com is reporting that ECW wrestler Rob Van Dam will be working for All Japan at their 1/28 Tokyo Dome show. There is no word on who is opponent will be. This is the same show that features the retirement ceremony for Stan Hansen and the return of Mexican wrestling legend, Mil Mascaras, to Japan. **Rhino is scheduled to compete at the January 16th Twin Towers Wrestling Federation event in Toronto, Ontario. He will be teaming up with Scott Demore to take on Larry Destiny & Bobby Rude. The location of the event is the Link Pub at Seneca College's Newnham Campus. Hall was arrested last month after a string of incidents, including drunk driving and allegedly kicking a cab driver's door. He posted bail but the judge in the case ruled Hall should say behind bars instead of going free. Hall spent the holidays in jail. Women of Wrestling will be presenting their first PPV event on 2/8 at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, CA. The show will be entitled "Women of Wresting Unleashed". Here are the matches announced at this time: - WOW Champion Terri Gold defends her belt against Danger. - In the finals of the Tag Team Tournament to crown the first ever WOW Tag Team Champions, Caged Heat will battle Harley's Angels. - Selina will battle Thug in a 25 foot steel cage. - Lana Star vs Ice Cold vs Patti Pizzazz vs Poison in a four way match that sees the loser getting her head shaved. For more infor got to http://www.wowe.com (the Law) ______________________________________________________________________ [Column] Rounding The Squared Circle "WELCOME TO WCW II" OR "WELCOME BACK ERIC, HOW'S IT HANGING?" It was announced earlier today that Good Old Eric (GOE) had finally bought WCW from Time Warner (no, Uncle Ted wasn't allowed to spend a few minutes alone with the body) by at last putting his financial group together. In a sign of things to come (as well as a sign of days long gone), GOE refused to identify who his backers are, although Fat Tony has been seen brown bagging of late, and Mumbles has allowed his lip broom to get rather unruly of late, possibly indicating that they have been saving their nickels and dimes for just such an occasion. A further indication that Fat Tony could be one of GOE's angels is a comment he made on the most recent edition of NITRO. For the first time ever, Fat Tony didn't use the expression "The greatest NITRO ever," or "The biggest match in the history of NITRO." Knowledgeable insiders say this was The Rotund One's way of holding the price down. Further fueling speculation that Mumbles was involved was his being seen making repeated trips to the airport on his vintage 1918 Schwinn Bicycle, chauffeuring several Santa like, bald men, all sporting 1930s era mustaches. Of special interest is that the group he picked up at the airport also included several furry lipped, chrome domed, very large females. Speculation about WCW's future has been running rampant since the sale was announced. A Rounding The Squared Circle contact in Tamp, Florida is reporting that a bald (that seems to be the new theme in WCW) man, wearing a strange red and yellow outfit was seen boarding a plane headed for Atlanta. While refusing to be interviewed, he was overheard asking the flight crew "What cha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild all over you." Alarmed by this strange sight and words, the flight attendants were on the verge of calling airport security to have him removed from the plane. This was prevented by nine men traveling with him, each carrying a briefcase, with the names "Fleecem, Screwem and Cheetem" in gold letters on it. The man was calling everyone on the plane "Brother" and telling anyone who would listen that he was going to be the First Champion of WCW II. Much like in the old WCW, no one listened to his ranting, let alone seemed to care. This then is the new WCW, which much like the old WCW, will have GOE calling the shots, Old Baldy telling GOE what shots to call, and the rest of WCW hoping Old Baldy would be shot. The old caste system will be restored, with wrestlers under 35 will be relegated to status of coolie. The man of 1,001 names, and Old Baldy's closest (only?) friend, Brutus Beefcake, will be brought back and immediately given back his rank of demigod. His first 33 semi and Main Event wins will be booked to be anyone who has held a Title in the past year. It is then expected he will leave and return a few months later with a new name. The Macho Guy will be returning and will be anointed US Champion and enter into a feud with Old Baldy for the WCW II Championship. He will retire in 2026 still trying to win it. His new valets, porn princesses Jackee and DeeDee will become WCW II's first female Tag Team Champions. They will hold the Titles until it is discovered that Jackee is really Jack when her/his/its tights rip exposing his/her/its secret, as well two or three other things. The scandal will bring the ire of PTC Lord L. Brent Bozo down on WCW II. Bozo will appear on 60 Minutes II and announce that he is giving the WWF and Emperor Vince an award for cleaning up their act. The awards dinner will be delayed as a result of freak weather - Hell Freezing Over. GOE will announce that he asked His Royal Highness, The Ultimate Whiner to join WCW II, provided he leaves his most recent Twelve Manifestos home at his high desert retreat. It is not known if he will be successful because he hasn't been able to locate anyone who can translate his offer into ancient Sanskrit. GOE promises no more trap doors in the ring if he does get His Holiness to sign. Ticket sales with only a week to go until WCW II's first NITRO have been very brisk. The latest count shows 45 tickets sold, a 450% increase over the most recent WCW NITRO. Note to Mumbles: There will be plenty of room for all your relatives. I would be remiss if amid all the glowing news surrounding WCW II's virgin (and there's a word you don't hear often around the hallowed halls of WCW) NITRO, if I didn't report that there are a few storm cloud brewing. There are rumblings among the younger wrestlers that they wont keep their pushes and maintain their momentum. To ease their fears, GOE held a meeting and calmed everyone with just two words: "Trust Me." Quoting another person known for his honesty and veracity, GOE added "I feel your pain." Everyone shook hands with GOE, and walked out happy, after counting their fingers. We will once again have two vibrant Federations. The WWF will be challenged. WCW II will thrive and grow. GOE will keep all his promises.
