The report says that Studio M hopes it can attract viewers seeking personality-based programs and a wider scope than offerings from Viacom's MTV, VH1 and M2. The long-term goal is to expand to 24-hour operation and reach 90 percent of the United States. The network launched on a small scape on Dec. 11 on over 130 affiliates of America One and American Independent Network. Although there are no indications it is in the works, given what ECW has produced for Farmclub.com, a rock-themed hour based around ECW action might be great fit for the struggling wrestling company looking for a national clearance. ECW could grow with the network. Hour 2: Royal Rumble insider. **Boston Globe columnist David Nyhan has written a humourous piece in the Globe, in which he picks Vince McMahon as Man of the Year because he has dragged popular culture down to yet even lower depths. To read the article, click http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/364/oped/Person_of_the_year_That_s_e asy+.shtml **The New Years Eve edition of WWF Sunday Night Heat will be a wrap- up of the greatest moments of the WWF year and is titled 'WWF Exposed 2000'. **The Lycos list also says ''WWF'' finished 3rd last year. ''Sable'' is listed as #60 (#23 last year) while ''WCW'' finished as #92 (#45 last year). Oh, BTW, Kid Rock is listed as #57 and Jenny McCarthy as #56 (just thought I'd mention it, since she was at WrestleMania 10 ). There's also a weekly ranking on this page, and for the week ending on Dec. 16, ''WWF'' finished as #11 (down 1 from #10 last week), being in the rankings for 70 weeks straight. "Christmas" officially knocked the WWF out of the top ten. **The WWF got yet another mention in Entertainment Weekly last week in their "Best of 2000" edition in "Jim Mullen's Hot Sheet." At #11, it was written as follows: 11. Gladiator. Smackdown at the Colosseum. The difference between this and the WWF? No whining losers. She has been started on fluids, sparingly, and tonight they'll try to give her a few bites of applesauce. There is more tone to her pancreas and her levels are coming down to a more comfortable level. They will have to operate and are waiting for the right time." He said "You know, I just don't get you. You applaud the comeback of Vince McMahon, but everytime the WCW brings back the NWO or the "Evil Promoter gimmick, you call it old and useless. What's up with that?" I simply replied "That's different; it's Vince" and left it at that. A little later, I thought about it a little more, and you know what, I was right; it is totally different. We know how it started; Vince became the evil promoter and thus the number one heel in the company. Yeah, Bischoff had done it, but McMahon had a different purpose. Not just to open up new stories, but to add to the already immense popularity of Stone Cold by being his number one foil. The corporation was a great gimmick, also putting over the new and improved Rock. Remember the Corporate Champion? That led to Vince changing his spots for a brief period of time when SCSA won the title at WM15. But how does Vince return to his evil ways? By becoming the Higher Power, an even more devious character, dragging the poor little Princess into it. This led to a renewed fervor between The McMahons and SCSA before Vince took a hiatus from TV. When Vince came back, Triple H was clearly the number one heel in the WWF, as evidenced by his trying to take a poke at Linda. Now Vince was back as the benevolent patriarch, defending the honor of his company against the vile HHH. This of course led to the classic daughter backstabbing daddy. (A quality she learned so well from the King, don't you think?) When Vince came back again, it was allegedly to help the Rock. We of course know that Vince was there to screw him, and bring the family back together; except for Linda. This would now be a continuing theme as Vince left again after his monumental "Genetic Jackhammer" soliloquy. And yes, Vince has returned again. This time though, he is trying to set new highs (or is that lows) in trying to be the most hated man in the company. He is "divorcing" Linda, and has gotten the Princess to align with him even after one of the alltime great Smackdown interviews where he ripped them both. We still have a few scenarios that can play out. Now that father and daughter are allied with Kurt Angle, who will the next top contender be? And what about Triple H, the injured husband who is sitting on the sideline? We got a brief tease of HHH vs. Angle with Steph as the prize in the fall, and that could still play out. And let us not forget Stone Cold; he is still Vince's bumber one arch enemy. SCSA still has a few knock down battles left with Vince. With Vince, even thought the premise is the same, the outcomes are different. As for the WCW/NWO; they keep doing the same stories. They never try to add a fresh angle to it. The New Blood was about as close as they got, and that was a re-hash of the young guys vs. the old guys anyway. Once again, I leave it up to the faithful readers to decide what they think; these are just my opinions. Happy New Year everybody!!!! VILE'S TOTALLY ANAL TRIVIA: Congratulations to ECW Tommy Girl and Shooter Mist who correctly identified The Iron Shiek:WWF Champion on 12-26-83 over Bob Backlund. This week's question: Name the first WWF pay per view, and where it was held. E-Mail answers to stoncold@b...
