The fight occurred when Steiner came backstage after a promo where he ripped into Page. Steiner did the promo in the context of a challenge to Ric Flair, who announced having a mystery opponent for Steiner at the Sin PPV. Buck typed up a transcript of what was said by Steiner. "I got an idea for you. Why don't you try to convince Diamond Dallas Page to have a sex change, so he has the balls to come and face me. Ric Flair, you've been in this business a long time, and you've seen a lot of white trash and a lot of jabronis. So when Diamond Dallas Page comes out here and says "self high five", do your job and send him to the bush leagues where he belongs. When he comes down and says "badda boom, badda bing, badda bang", I don't even know what the hell that means. Send him back down to the bush leagues because he proved he can take someone out of the trailer park, but he'll always be white trash. So, Ric Flair, I'm on my knees begging you. Make Diamond Dallas Page my next opponent. So get your ass out here, and tell me he is." The promo was not written into last night's Nitro and was totally scripted by Steiner. It is no secret that Steiner and Page are not friendly with each other, and in fact don't get along at all, stemming all the way back to issues that Steiner had with Page's wife Kimberly, which caused Kim to leave WCW. There are various stories going around, but the one I believe to be 100% accurate is that Page went to the gorilla position to confront Steiner when they got backstage, which in and of itself was a pretty gutsy move by Page when you consider Steiner's rep as a legit tough guy. Page got in Steiner's face about what he just said, and then pushed Steiner in the chest. The fight was on from there. I was told it was very quick, with five wrestlers/security pulling Steiner off of Page, who was bloodied slightly in the fracas. Page then left the building with his tag partner Kevin Nash. The two were scheduled to do an interview during the segment that had the Natural Born Thrillers in it and like much of the show, had to be rewritten on the fly as Sid also had left as well, causing his parts to be changed as well. Where this one will go from here is up in the air right now. He came to ringside with Kevin Kelly at the start of the show and sat at the announce position. Mike didn't send a report of the actual show because he said it was "pretty dull". **On NBC's Conan O'Brien show last night they replayed an interview Triple H did right before SummerSlam. Triple H told a story about his match/streetfight with Cactus Jack at Rumble 2000 and how his mother cried after seeing the match. **This morning's obscure Fox TV wrestling item #2: On Sunday's episode of King of the Hill, a Fox animated comedy program, the "son" character Bobby Hill expresses a desire to watch "Christmas Smackdown." The "father" character Hank Hill consults the TV guide, notes that Dennis Rodman will be a special guest referee, and predicts that he'll get a chairshot. The "mother" character Peggy Hill counters with a prediction that he'll get The Worm. Then Hank notes that it's rated TV-14 and forbids the 13 year old Bobby from watching the program. Dave Meltzer reports there is more reason behind it, and the injury was just a cover up. Sid was reportedly upset about the way WCW's booking committee had written him into the Scott Steiner storyline. Original plans for Nitro included a four way match to be announced for the Sin pay-per-view featuring Sid vs Jeff Jarrett vs Rick Steiner vs Scott Steiner. Of course, that had to be rewritten on the fly. Another thing that went haywire on Nitro last night was Scott Steiner's "mystery opponent." The plan was to have the mystery man (Rick Steiner) attack Scott as the show went off the air. Apparently, Rick didn't make it to the tapings last night so they had to stick another worker in a mask. **Dave Scherer reports that Sid was heavily written into Nitro to set up Sin, so the program had to be rewritten on the spot. Then, after Scott Steiner's promo and DDP/Steiner brawl backstage, the creative team had to rewrite part of the program again to take DDP out. Page and Nash were sent home and were to have participated in an angle with the Natural Born Thrillers. **Pamela Paulshock did not appear on Nitro last night because she is filming a movie and could not make it to the show. **Backstage at Nitro, DDP attempted to "bury the hatchet" with Mark Madden, who was suspended last week for comments he had made about the Insiders member on the air. However, Madden refused to be part of the truce and brushed DDP off. **Dustin Rhodes was at Starrcade briefly yesterday afternoon to meet with the WCW creative team to talk about possible storylines for him in the company. From what I was told, be did not stay for the whole show. **There was never any intention for Dustin Rhodes to be on Starrcade. He was never booked to be on Starrcade, and was never intended to be a surprise on Starrcade. As far as I know, he won't be at the TV taping tonight.
