Tell your friends about the BEST up and coming newsletter around to subscribe today! - Well, Starrcade is tonight and my girlfriend wants to go out with her friends for desert. I have to say that I've turned my gal pal into quite the wrestling fan in the two years and change we've been together. We watch all three companies on PPV's when we get a chance. So, with ECW it's "Oh Mmy God didn't that hurt?". With WCW, "naidO, can we go out with my friends for desert?", "Honey, there's a WCW pay per view today.", "There's a pay per view this weekend?" *lol*. With the WWF, it's "Ooh, is the Rock fighting this weekend?" HONEST that's our conversations. God I love her! **Until tomorrow, enjoy this latest edition of nWN! - naidO nWN Founder - http://www.geocities.com/naidosnews ______________________________________________________________________ [TOP NEWS STORY] **Last word on the WCW sale is that it is very close to being completed. No word on a timetable or an announcement date. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran an article about the AOL merger and listed WCW as one of the potential casualties. (Dave Meltzer) ______________________________________________________________________ [News from the WWF] **Final word on the rating for Smackdown, which was a 4.9. On the rating hotline, the first number was a 3.4, but that was for the 18- 34 demographic. The second number was 4.9, which was the household rating which is the number that everyone goes by, although advertisers like that first number as well. A 3.4 in that first category is very good, but that explains the error yesterday. Half hours were 4.4, 4.7, 5.1 and 5.4 which is the sign of a good show, and the show finished third for the night losing to NBC and ABC but beating everyone else. **In Cody Monk's Dallas Morning News wrestling column, he got comments from Christian and Bradshaw on Alex Rodriguez's 27 billion dollar contract. "I can't believe that amount of money," said Christian, who grew up in Toronto, whose Blue Jays have Carlos Delgado, now the game's third-highest paid player. "I don't see how you spend that much. I don't see how the owners do that, especially when I watch games in the afternoon when the stands are half full. He's good, though. He'll hit home runs in that stadium. For what they're paying him, he better." Bradshaw added, "I don't see how you pay someone more than what (Mark) McGwire makes. He puts 50,000 in the stands for batting practice. Does (Rodriguez) do that?" **Today's USA Today features a story on the XFL. In the article, Vince McMahon evaluates the decision to add Dennis Miller to the Monday Night Football announcing team. MNF's ratings are down 9 percent this year. ''That proves they don't have a clue," said McMahon. "He's a fantastic humorist, but he appeals to elite individuals with a sophisticated sense of humor. He's not of the people.'' McMahon said Jesse Ventura, who uses double-negatives sometimes like regular folk, will appear to the football audience. McMahon says GE chairman Jack Welch has suggested the WWF-NBC marriage will prove so novel it will be studied at Harvard Business School. Students will find if heresy against a secular religion such as football can pay. ''I don't think there are many things that are sacred,'' McMahon says. ''Much less sport.'' (Cred: Dave Meltzer, Wade Keller) _______________ [News from ECW] **Several incidents coming out of the ECW show last night. Don't have full details, but there are reports up out there regarding an incident with New Jack and a fan before the show which resulted in New Jack saying he was quitting wrestling. Most of the wrestlers, if not all, weren't paid last night, making them seven weeks behind. Don't know how much longer people will be able to hang on. Paul Heyman was telling people he was close to a TV deal, but close when it comes to deals is a regular occurence. **ECW results from Saturday in Queens at the Elks Lodge: - Chilly Willy b Mike Bell - Michael Shane b Bilvis Wesley - Nova & Balls Mahoney b Julio Dinero & EZ Money - Jerry Lynn b Christian York - Justin Credible b Kid Kash - Danny Doring & Roadkill b Baldies to keep tag titles (Tazz was the surprise guest and choked out heel ref Danny Daniels and put over Doring & Roadkill with his survive if they let you catch phrase) - Rhino b Spike Dudley - FBI b Whipwreck & Tajiri to keep tag titles - Corino b Sandman in a last man standing (Texas death rules) when Victory tripped Sandman as he got to his feet first - Dudleys & Dreamer b Simon Diamond & Swinger & CW Anderson when they did the 3-D on Swinger and Dreamer got the pin Dreamer, Dudleys, Paul Heyman and Sandman basically did a curtain call at the end. Same network carries same day Raw, Smackdown and Metal **Sabu was fine last night in Toronto working a three-way with Larry Destiny and Scott D'Amore. **Phil Mushnick ran an article on the XFL. Obviously not favorable. Really nothing new in this one. Brought up the Owen Hart death attempting to tie it into Vince McMahon's lack of care about injuries and that XFL players are going to be injured a lot. I thought the tie- in was pretty weak. People get hurt playing pro football like they get hurt in wrestling. It's part of the game and the game can't survive without physical contact. I don't really know what can be done about it as long as you have the game.
