As we had no visas from Dhaka, just followed the sign saying "Visitors without Visa", we filled up the forms and paid USD 15 each for a week, in 15 minutes the visas were ready, pretty neat procedure which definitely attracts exhausted but interested tourists. Exchanged some US Dollar (USD) to Nepalese Rupees (NR) from the designated counters inside immigration and customs hall, asked for the receipt which is needed later to exchange back NR to USD (if you have some left).
Rented a taxi from the Airport Taxi booth to our destination, Madhuban Guest House (refered by Niaz, my younger brother), Chhetrapati, Thamel, Kathmandu. Paid NR 200 upfront at the booth, 30 minutes ride to guest house was not bad but the driver and his talkative assistant (what for?) were trying to convince us to go to their hotels. The streets and people looked very peaceful.
Upon arrival at the guest house, had a warm reception and we liked the staff at first look, we were given room 304 (top floor) , the first thing we did was ordered meal, no doubt we had Nepalese dishes, took shower and made our plan with help of hotel staff.
A) Bodhnath Temple: A white temple with eyes wide open to watch you and also lots of small metal Turning prayer wheels around the temple and multicolor flags flattering to heaven.
B) Pashupatinath Temple: King Pasupatinath built this temple in 17th century.
C) Bhaktapur City: Old capital of Nepal during King Bhupatindra Malla in 1702, best attraction is Durbar Square (entry fee of NR 30) with lots of facsinating temples including Nayatapola Temple, the tallest one (30m) guarded by stone guardians in the steps.
D) Shayambhunath Temple or Stupa: Other name is Monkey temple, this stupa used be guarded by monkeys. Pratap Malla built this temple in 17th century. Best attraction was the stairs to the stupa, at top of the hill.
E) Patan City: An old city too but this place is condensed with temples, other name is 'Lalit Nagar' means beautiful city, separated from Kathmandu by Bagmati river, seemed like part of Metropolitan Kathmandu. It was raining hard, so shortened our visit.
F) Durbar Square: This place is in the heart of Kathmandu city, you can see rickshaws in here. We ended our sight seeing and asked Kedar to drop us near Super market and headed to New Bakery Cafe on New Road to have our dinner, the food was great specially the chicken sandwich, we both liked it.
Had some shopping and returned to guest house by rickshaw. Bought tickets and arranged pre-paid hotel room in Pokhra for tomorrow.
On way back found a Steak House near our guest house, Liza had beef steak and I had Tibetan style steak (spicy). Called Dhaka from the hotel, took some pictures inside the hotel lobby and packed stuffs for departure tomorrow.
Here are photos taken in Kathmandu:
