I. Responsibility to Employers, Clients, System Users, and Profession

o Be honest, trustworthy, and respectful of others:
- By not knowingly misleading a client or potential client as to the suitability of a product or service
- By giving credit for work done by others where credit is due

o To act faithfully for my employer and clients in professional matters

o To uphold each user's, client's or employer's rights to privacy and confidentiality
and by respecting whatever proprietary rights belong to them:
- By minimizing data collected about clients, patrons, or users, and by limiting
access to, providing proper security for and ensuring proper disposal of such data
as it does not conflict with the proper goals and constraints of the organization
- By not disclosing confidential information obtained during system usage,
administration or maintenance, except when such disclosure is mandated
by law or in accord with proper policies of my employer or the proper rights
of my clients

o To truthfully represent myself and the information systems which I utilize or
which I represent:
- By not knowingly making false statements or providing erroneous information or
fail to inform clients or employers of the limitations, conditions and constraints of
the system
- By informing my employer, or clients of any circumstances that could lead to
a conflict of interest
- By not using my position beyond my authorized limits or by not using my
credentials to misrepresent myself

o To be and to remain competent and qualified, and to foster competence and
deter incompetence among fellow professionals:
- By only undertaking assignments for which I am qualified
- By following and promoting standards of conduct in accord with the best current
practices
- By performing services in a manner that enhances or does not discredit the
profession

II. Responsibility to Society

o To treat fairly all persons regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation,
age or national origin

o To accept responsibility in making engineering decisions consistent with the
safety, health and welfare of the public, and to disclose promptly factors that might
endanger the public or the environment

o To avoid injuring or harming others, their property, reputation, or employment by
false or malicious action

o To improve the understanding of technology, its appropriate application, and
potential consequences

o To contribute to society�s and human�s well-being:
- By attempting to minimize the negative consequences of computing systems,
including threats to health and safety
- By designing or implementing systems which meets social needs, and  avoids
harmful effects to health and welfare
