WORLD HISTORY ASSIGNMENTS
QUARTER ONE
DUE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th - Quiz on vocabulary words from Chapter 1, Sections 1 and parts of 2 - 30 points
DUE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th - Optional assignment - creating at least a six word sentence in hieroglyphics - 10 points
DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th - Map associated with chapter 1 - 20 points
DUE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th - Movie Review, including specific examples and thoughts on "Flight 93" - 10 points
DUE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th - Essay on 9-11. Students are to write a one page, single spaced, twelve point font, one inch margin essay on the topic "What 9-11 Means to Me." The essay is to be set up as follows: Title "What 9-11 Means to Me" centered at the top of the page followed by the essay. Do not go over or under one page! Put your name on the back because after they are graded, other faculty members will be judging them for a contest plus a few will be published in the new school newspaper. - 25 points
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th - CHAPTER 1 TEST - 100 points, consisting of the following:
People Identification - 15 points - the students will select 5 of the 7 listed people and tell me who they were and what they did
Vocabulary - 20 points - the students will select 5 of the 8 listed vocab words and define them and provide examples
Essay #1 - 25 points - Select one of the four major religions that we have talked about in this chapter (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism,
Confucianism) and describe all aspects of it: beginnings, rituals, ceremonies, beliefs, place in the world where it
is most prevalent.
Essay #2 - 15 points - Hint - know a lot about one of the many empires we have discussed
Short Answer - 20 points
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st - Confucianism's - Each student, after reading and hearing some actual pieces of advice from Confucius, is to write an Confucianism of their own. They are to either print it in fancy writing or type it in fancy writing and if an explanation is needed, provide it - 10 points
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2nd - Map concerning locations of Chapter 2 - <20 points
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2nd - Quiz on Chapter 2 - any people we disscussed up to and including Hannibal plus an essay concerning the Trojan War - 30 pts
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10th - Chapter 2 Test - 100 points, consiisting of the following:
Vocabulary - 25 points - the students will select 5 of the 7 listed vocab words and define them and provide examples
People Identification - 15 points - the students will select 5 of the 8 listed people and tell me who they were and what they did
Essay #1 - 25 points - Describe in detail the rise, reign and fall of Rome. Include in your essay: people involved, areas conquered, events in
Rome, government, culture and religion.
Essay #2 - 20 points - Period 1 Hint - republic, oligarchy, democracy
Period 3 Hint - Socrates, Plato, Aristotle
Period 6 Hint - Christianity
Short Answer - 15 points
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11th - Roman Story - Students are to write a story pretending to be a Roman in the years of the empire, citing things we have talked about. The story is to be at least 2 pages, double spaced with a title. They may make it as funny or as serious as they would like as long as the directions are followed - 25 points
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13th - Coliseum - Students are to work in grroups to create a coliseum of their liking using the art supplies - 20 points
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18th - Oral Reports on Religions - 50 points
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20th - Written Reports on Religions - 50 points
MONDAY, OCTOBER 23rd - Map - 20 points
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25th - All Extra Credit due - A possibility of up to 21 bonus points
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26th - Coin - 20 points
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th - Chapter 3 Test - 100 points - more information to come later in the week
MONDAY, OCTOBER 30th - Citizenship Grade - 50 points - this is a combination of behavior and keeping track of your papers and your grades - all extra credit will also be added to this grade
