
U.S. History
- Regular, 2 Semesters, 1 Credit
This is a third year history course designed to prepare students for either four and/or two year colleges or technical training programs. The course presents a general survey of the United States from European discovery through the present, and includes, Colonial America; the American Revolution and the rise of American political thought; the Federalist and Republican eras; westward expansion; Jacksonian democracy; manifest destiny; slavery; the Civil War; Reconstruction; the Gilded Age; immigration; America as a world power; the Progressive Era, American participation in World War I; the 1920's; the Depression; the New Deal; the U.S. in World War II; and domestic issues since 1945. A fundamental theme is the growth of democracy and democratic institutions in the United States. Knowledge of geography, Pennsylvania history and current events will be stressed.
