Stock Market Assignment

Modern American History Spring 2007

Objective

To acquaint each student with the stock market, its functions, and the positives and negatives of investing.

Instructions

1. Random groups of 3-4 will be assigned.

2. Each group will be given $1000 fictional dollars to invest in the stock market, with a $10 grace amount.

3. Each group will look at the stock report in the newspaper or online and select five companies in which

you will invest your money.

4. Then, spreading the thousand dollars out among the stocks, buy as many shares as you can of each. It is completely up to you how many shares of each stock you buy until you reach your $1000 ceiling.

5. You will make a chart to track your stocks. (The poster board will be provided)

6. The chart will remain in the classroom. Each day at the beginning of class your group will fill in the stock prices for that day.

7. You will observe your selected stocks for one week, starting tomorrow (1/17) and ending next

Tuesday (1/23).

8. Together with your group, you will write a one page summary of how your stocks performed.

9. You will each be required to write a one page summary about your thoughts on the activity and what you learned from it.
