Nagi's Origin is Juraian: It has been said that Nagi is of a Juraian descent. There are specific characteristics that Nagi displays that does support this theory. Nagi's eyes are a deep red color which is typical of inhabitants of this distant planet. Juraian eye color ranges between red and purple tones (as a standard). Though the skin pigments of these individuals vary, their eye color remains prominent. Another significant factor would be the bounty hunter's facial markings. Whenever a battle becomes a real potential, Juraians take on a customary and traditional line-set on their face. An example of these markings can be seen in episode #6 (We Need Tenchi) of the OVA. In this episode, both Tenchi and the princess Ayeka take on these unique facial markings thus proving their Juraian heritage. Ryoko has been known to occasionally take on this characteristic though her origin is relatively unknown. Nagi's line-markings seem to be permanent, as the viewer never sees the bounty hunter without them on her face. Though Nagi's origin is indeed unknown, this speculation is a very real possibility. ^.^
Nagi has a Love Interest: Another rumor has it that Nagi may have a deep running affection for the space pirate, Ryoko. Though this has been said, the possibility of this is relatively slim. Nagi's essential and unchanging goal is the capture of Ryoko (dead or alive) as one of her most valuable bounties. Being as Ryoko has managed to elude Nagi more than once, this progressively earned Nagi's respect. No other criminal has ever faced her on a singular occasion and lived to tell about it.
So, Nagi's mind change went from that of, "I will get you Ryoko" to "I will be the only one who gets you!" Therefore, Nagi took on a very competitive nature toward Ryoko and now strives to prove that she is a better woman by any means possible (ex: No Need for Swimsuits, Tenchi Universe). Although Nagi has helped Ryoko in the past, this was only to keep Ryoko alive long enough for her future defeat. Some people are competitive with those they love but, thier goal isn't to ultimately bring the other down. One can love and respect another but, one may also detest yet respect another. But being as Nagi doesn't show a romantic interest in any specific character, this remains a speculation.
Nagi and Ryoko sisters?: In another instance, it has been said that Nagi and Ryoko are sisters. My reply to that was, "Sisters?! what? No way!," but....here's how it could be justified....As many Tenchi fans and standard viewers have noticed, Nagi and Ryoko have conspicusouly similar characteristics. The two both have blue hair, though the shades of blue vary. Their body shape and build are practically the same and their hair may be the same shape but, it's hard to tell being as Nagi keeps her hair pulled back. Ryoko is light-hearted and a free-spirit whereas, Nagi is a free-spirit but extremely serious (however, Ryoko does have her serious moments). But, Ryoko has powers and abilities that Nagi has not been shown to have. Ryoko is a space criminal and Nagi hunts criminals but, for all I know this might just go to prove that they really are sisters (given that they would have some sort of a strange past as young siblings). The both of them travel by ships that are cabbits however, Ryo-Ohki (Ryoko's ship) seems to be a standard female cabbit while Ken-Ohki (Nagi's ship) is a larger male cabbit with characteristics of albinism. Now, if we were questioning the sisterhood from an OVA perspective....I would most likely say that the possibility of that is very slim (because Washu probably didn't create another humanoid besides Ryoko). But being as this is the first TV series and Ryoko and Nagi's origins are both questionable....this will be a standing speculation. Of course if the previous rumor is true, then this speculation is most likely not the case. However, if they are both Juraian....then....uh....this rumor stands. >.< icky!
Nagi is an alcoholic: This is a very good one to bring to light. There is a good possibility that Nagi is an alcoholic. Quite frequently the viewer encounters Nagi in a space bar on some remote planet. The only way that this might not be a possibility is that....you have to consider that if Ryoko had been on one of these planets at a point, a space bar would be an ideal source of information (which would require that Nagi go to a bar to find out). Also, the viewer has to remember that Ryoko has quite a liking for alcoholic beverages herself therefore, asking bartenders and people at the bars about Ryoko is almost a standard procedure. However, I do have to admit that it seems like Nagi orders some sort of beer of house special (cocktail) everywhere she goes. A very good speculation! ^.^
Nagi is an ex-criminal: Yeah, I can see that. She does seem to possess quite a bit of knowledge about the criminal system and, she seems to know most of them on a first name basis. And in order to catch a criminal, I'm sure that one must think like one. So, good speculation! ^.^
Nagi was Ryoko's Partner in Crime: I like this rumor, it's kind of spicy. Well, the truth is that this one stands. This would explain why Nagi always seems to know exactly where to find Ryoko. This one could even be compared to a historical concept like, Pat Garrett and William H. Bonney (Billy the Kid). Pat was part of Billy's original gang and a good friend of Billy's but, he took up being a sheriff and tracked Billy down. The same could very will be possible for Nagi and Ryoko. Another good one! ^.^
