| Midnight Car Ride Night flashes by full of lights, reflections, and blurred images. Looking over, you see your girlfriend there. So beautiful as she sleeps nestled against the window, breathing softly. Friends in the back playing some game as No Motiv blares out of speakers and into the car. San Francisco, 180 miles. The reflection of a green sign blares back at you. You have been planning this trip for months. Just you and the other three, no cares. Songs change and it flips on to Only You and your girlfriend turns and looks up at you and smiles. Smiling back, you give her a little wink and she sits up to kiss you on the cheek. Oh sick, Your friend calls from the back seat, laughing, Get a room. We will be once we get to San Fran, You call back. Dork, Your other friend says. Laughing, you think back to all the memories of why it is just you four in the car, all the great times flashing more rapidly than the hard ones that you had to fight through together. You smile and settle more into the drivers seat. Suddenly lights come around bend from behind you and you can see that the car is coming up fast. Scared out it being an officer you check your speedometer. 100mph, thats no good, your surely caught now. You start to slow up a bit, but the car is not turning on any red and blue lights yet. Screaming up you notice that it isnt exactly in a line but either in both. The car approaches steadily and you start to feel sear in the pit of your stomach. Suddenly the car swerves out then back in and comes right up into the back on you car causing your tail to fish out. You frantically try to correct it as the car keeps pushing forward and knocks you off into the side shoulder. You notice the other car spin out and smack into the median right as your car starts to flip. Rolling you seem to loose all awareness of up or down. Pain just starts to jam into your bottom as you and your friends are tossed in the tumble cycle of a washing machine. Frantically trying to get a hold of yourself the car tumbles and you hit your head on the steering wheel and are knocked unconscious. Darkness fades over your body and you are lost in a void you minutes, that seem like hours. You wake up to sheer, agonizing pain and the world spins madly about you. Now the realization of up and down falls on you as you notice that gravity is pulling you down towards the ceiling of the car. The tug of your seat belt, holding you suspended in air. You start to get the faint realization that blood trickles from your head, hitting below you. Trying to talk to the other members in the car, your voice just comes out in a moan. You try and scream your girlfriends name, but nothing comes out. Unbuckling your seat belt, you smash to the ceiling of the car and more glass jabs into your neck. Oh, so much pain. You frantically struggle to get out of the car and stand up. Your legs weak as gelatin barely hold your weight underneath you. Stumbling around the car you, get the passenger side door and try to pry it open but it doesnt budge. Pain is just screaming though your body. Blood soaking your shirt and drying across your face. Finally, after many attempts of trying you are able to budge the car door open and get to your girlfriend. Tears start to streak done your face as you see a large gash is cutting across her head and matting her beautiful hair with blood. You are able to get her seat belt of and get her out of the car when blackness rolls over you again. The void dropping you limp to the ground. Sounds start to filter around you, as a barrage of questions hit you full blast. Are you ok, son? How many people were in the car with you?? What happened? You notice that you are up on a stretcher and paramedics are crowded around trying to get you stable. What happened? You moan, I dont know what happened. You trail off as blackness rolls over again. You notice that you dont feel pain anymore and the void from before isnt as strong. Am I dead?? You ask yourself and the sudden realization that you are floats across your mind. What happened to the others did they die too?? Did they end up with this same fate?? This time an answer isnt brought to you. Thoughts flood your mind as you gain the understanding that those four were the last people to see before you died. Did you remember to tell them how much you cared for them?? Did you let your girlfriend know how much you truly loved her?? Did your parents know how much you appreciated them? Did that girl you had the crush on back then ever know how you felt and if she did would it have changed everything?? As these float across your thoughts, you know that you didnt and wish that you would have done so. How many chances did you not take letting people know?? The End |
