Throughout our centuries of existence there has always been a strong recognition that journeys are part of our lives. It is surely the case that the very basis for civilization lies in seeking the new and learning from the experiences of others. There will always be a human need to explore, to go beyond our limits and experience the unknown. For some of us - take Chingghis Khan or Marco Polo or Homer - those journeys are monumental, full of potential danger, monstrous adversaries, and ultimately the potential for great glory. For others the journey might seem tamer, a walk in a nearby park that, despite all the years of living close to, has never been visited. Whatever journeys we choose, we choose them influenced by images of ourselves, how we view the world and how we would like to view it. Our journeys fulfill a sense of longing and ignite us with curiosity. - www.distant-horizons.com |
