PRESENT A STUDENT ROUNDTABLE

If you miss the full conference proposal deadline (July 15), think about presenting at the Student Roundtable Discussions!

This event is a 2 hour session where each presenter has their own table of 3 to 8 people for several 15 minute sessions. The attending students rotate groups every 15 minutes, giving time for Q&A and discussions.

Interested? Here are some tips:

This is a first-come, first-serve presentation format. Send all of your required information into the President early. Deadline: March 1, 2009.

Handouts and visuals are wonderful additions.

Remember, your audience is mainly pre-service teachers and grad students.

Share your experiences!

Table topics may include grant research, improving your student chapter, 1st year tips, fundraisers, and many more!

Check with your college/university student government for funding. They often give significant assistance to students who present at conferences.

PAST CONFERENCE REVIEW

New Orleans! The NAEA Convention! Sunny and Dry! Yes, the 2008 New Orleans Convention was totally awesome! Spend some time reflecting on your experiences, sharing with your fellow students you left back home, applying new ideas, and playing with your free goodies. Try putting together a student chapter meeting to exchange new ideas from sessions you attended with your clueless compatriots back home. Make sure you spread the good word to your friends and get them excited about next year in Minneapolis!

The 2008 New Orleans NAEA convention is finally behind us and it was truly amazing. According to our numbers, around 600 students came from all over the country to grow and have fun. That's 10% of the entire convention attendance! That's huge and it goes to show that students are an incredible part of NAEA! Thanks to all of you that came and represented your student chapters and programs.

So how was it? Our opinion is slightly biased but we'd love to hear from you. Visit the Forum and leave some feedback or e-mail us your thoughts.

We are requesting that those of you who attended the last conference (and other past conferences) tell us about your experiences and what presentations you really enjoyed and learned a lot from. Your input will help us select future presentations.

LESSON PLAN EXCHANGE

Each year, the Student Chapter gathers at the national conference to share ideas. One important aspect of this conversation is the exchange of lesson plans (L'Exchange).

Students are asked to make 50 - 100 copies of their favorite lesson plan with them to the conference. Bring your lesson plans to the Student Roundtables. In return, each person who participates in the swap will receive copies of different lesson plans from around the country!

(Please note: The amount of lessons received will vary due to the number of participants in the exchange.)

An online file of the L'Exchange form can be downloaded here or you can use your own lesson format. Either way, please be clear and include the fine details! References, websites, drawn examples, and any "tips" along the way help in sharing your experience as well as your lesson plan. Give yourself and your school credit for your plan... include an email address in case others have questions or challenges.
