Artist NADIA RUSS: "New York City Faces", acrylic on canvas, 36"x40", 2001, NY, USA
New York City Faces

Giant gray skylines fade behind New York City.
Strangers see spectacular edifices from a distance,
A mere icone for site seers.
We are an experience only to be lived.
Indocrinate your self into our world.
The artist sees the hue, the poet feels the people.
Scan the crowds and never find two eyes the same.
Celbrate the life, the diversity, the hair, the lips, all unique.
The rite of passage is simple: survive.
Brutal, but only certain creatures may adapt
To our brackish waters,
Giving birth to a species unlike any other.
We are a flowing lifeline that connect many spirits,
One essence which defines the New Yorker.
Smell the sidewalk vendors treats, feel the crowds around you.
Often numbers drown the self.
A challenge to maintain indentity gives birth to great works.
Never let the gray shadow the bright smiles,
Open your eyes when the commonplace become usual.
I see New York City Faces.
