Hannibal (Dir. Ridley Scott)
Ten years after "Silence of the Lambs", Hannibal Lecter is doing very well in Florence and has become the curator of an antique prints collection. Thanks to him, the Italian detective on his tracks gets the same treatment as his Pazzi family ancestor. Lecter meets up again with FBI agent Clarice Starling, and the perverse attraction between the two characters is renewed. The film does not take a moral stance and it is very difficult to hate the charming serial killer. The technically-minded among you will appreciate how the FBI tracks visitors to their website and a hands-free mobile conversation in a shopping mall.

The Gift (Dir. Sam Raimi)
Cate Blanchett is great in the lead role, but unfortunately the film does not even come close to "What Lies Beneath". It does, however, highlight the prejudice and misconception that still surrounds the work of clairvoyants (and healers, for that matter) and raises the question of whether they should charge a fee for talents they possess naturally.

Memento (Dir. Christopher Nolan)
A former insurance investigator obsessively hunts the killer of his wife, or so it seems. The people he meets take advantage of his short-term memory loss, the condition he has developed after that attack, and use him for their own vengeful plans. An ordinary thriller cleverly constructed backwards which keeps you gripped as you never know what is going to happen next - sorry, before! The end is a bit confusing, though.
