| Welcome to the official site of the near Surfside Beach chapter of NACWAG. As usual, there is much to report regarding this year's competition for the coveted Golden Melon. We encountered near drought conditions early in the growing season, followed by a most active hurricane season. To be sure, there were plenty of challenges! As is always the case, the competition was fierce and came down to the wire. Mike took the early lead but Jeff came on strong at the end. With the entire neighborhood (and the local media) keeping close tabs on a daily basis, Jeff managed to bring home the winning melon. When the smoke had cleared, Jeff had produced a melon weighing an incredible 119.5 lbs, smashing the previous record of 76 lbs from 2003. Mike's melon this year ... weighed something less.
