they come in. These pictures provided by Michael Durkin, Tom (Baker)

The Day we put Currachs on
Carlingford Lough
by
Michael Durkin
Midst the
shouts and the roars
And the
breaking of oars
We
steered all the boats off the Bloody Point Rocks
While the
crowd watched enthralled
From atop
the sea wall
The day
we put currachs on Carlingford Lough
The
Albany crew
Showed
just what they could do
And the
women outshone all comers all day
While
Laurie and Kim
With a
push from Big Jim
Won races
while winning the mens hearts away
Diane and
Danielle
Showed
their Spirit as well
And the
crowds learned to chant out the name Dick Adair
He said
Im not Red
And my
friend here is Ed
We just
came here to sample the drink and fine fare
Midst the
shouts and the roars
And the
breaking of oars
We
steered all the boats off the Bloody Point Rocks
While the
crowd watched enthralled
From atop
the sea wall
The day
we put currachs on Carlingford Lough
Egan and
Shane
From
Annapolis came
To show
off their prowess at stroking an oar
Only one
race was lost
While the
tiny boats tossed
Out on
the waters off Warrenpoint Shore
On the
very last run
Neath
the bright summer sun
The Irish
had one chance to spring a surprise
In a turn
of bad luck
The two
US boats struck
And young
Conor from Belfast took the first prize
So come
back next year
Well be
here never fear
And we
will now promise you more of the same
The sea
and the sun
The craic
and the fun
And you
can be sure youll be glad that you came
Midst the
shouts and the roars
And the
breaking of oars
We
steered all the boats off the Bloody Point Rocks
While the
crowd watched enthralled
From atop
the sea wall
The day
we put currachs on Carlingford Lough
