CUSU Referendum on NAC Affiliation

Think again, CUSU

Dear TCS - Has CUSU thought of its disabled members during all this hoo-hah over abortion? If some of these pro-abortion campaigners got their way, most of us wouldn't be around. Feeling different about things now anyone?

Liberty of conscience?

Dear TCS - I would like to point out that the vote on the 1st November:  '
Should CUSU affiliate to the National Abortion Campaign (NAC)?' goes deeper than if abortion is right or wrong. It comes down to whether CUSU, while claiming to represent everyone, can say that abortion is absolutely dogmatically right! I can think of very few organisations to which CUSU could be legitimately affiliated, while claiming to represent the whole of the student body.
I am a Bible believing Christian. The Bible teaches that God created us in the womb and so we are therefore humans from conception and that murder is wrong. Is CUSU trying to become a religion? It might seem like this from more than just where I stand; it is the same for other religions (Jews, Muslims). You are asking me to have faith that CUSU is right and that God is wrong!  What happened to freedom of conscience?
If there is a 'yes' vote, many many people in Cambridge will feel betrayed by the only 'all encompassing' student body. So please THINK when you cast your vote. This a political affiliation and has no benefit for student welfare since political organisations by definition exclude large numbers of people. Would it not be wrong for CUSU to affiliate to an anti-abortion group? What would people say if that happened? Can the student body as a whole really make belief statements? Please vote with care.
