I thought it might be wise to give a few suggested guidelines for members of the Mischief Pirates. I'm not a big fan of rules, myself, and I'm certainly not going to come down on you if you don't follow these, but keep in mind not everybody's going to be as open-minded as us some times. If you steal from somebody, for example, they might consider you, the person, an ass for the rest of your life, failing to see the difference between your character and you in real life. I'll give you a tip, though - always commit an act when the time calls for it. You must know when to act, and when to stay still. It's a Taoist thing, but it'll come in handy. Oh, and by the way ...

Rules That'll Make Your Life Easier

1. This is really the only part I want you to pay the greatest attention to. I'm not a big fan of rules, but this one's important: DON'T BE A WEENY. I'm OK with you stealing and running around and stuff, but if you seriously take away everybody's fun, you're not being very helpful. This means no hacking the server, crashing people's clients, hot-headed vulgar language (that isn't coming from your character, but from you). Get the idea? Not everybody may like us, including some staff, but if you keep it harmless in the grand scheme of things and in character, and don't be a jerk, then whatever you do is alright. And if you do get into an argument, please argue intelligently!

2. IF YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMETHING, THINK ABOUT IT FIRST AND THE POSSIBLE RESULTS. Killing players isn't really my strong-point but you do know there are emotions attached to those guys walking around in the world (so be prepared for some blow-back), and don't ever bite off more than you can chew. Try to avoid learning this the hard way. Don't make a death a pain-in-the-ass for the staff or other players. This rule also ties in with Rule Number One.

3. Using bugs and exploits in the game are OK, but consider what's going to happen if you're caught. Even if you find a hole where you can dupe money, you might want to act as if the 'invisible eyes of the law' are always upon you. Although, for the record, you can probably guess your best times for when those eyes aren't there ... but DO NOT FORGET ABOUT RULE NUMBER ONE!!! If you upset the balance of the game world by an exploit, all that fun aside, consider the big picture here.

4. Speaking of getting caught, you better damn well better be able to THINK your way out of a jam. Talk, lie, confess - whatever, just do whatever so your account doesn't get canned. This isn't really a skill that you can practice ... it's more like you're born with it. The good news is that when you're scared shitless, you might be surprised at what your capable of. ;)

5. Stealing is a bit of a grey area. Just USE YOUR HEAD BEFORE YOU STEAL ANYTHING. I love stealing boats in UO but I would never in my life take somebody's bowling trophy they earned in a quest, for example. Stealing can also stick out to players, so try to avoid getting caught - say goodbye to ever having one trust you again! It's also not always easy to hide behind the crowd.

6. Spread the 'Way'. Got some interesting philosophies? Got something you think another player should hear? Just want to generally add something deep to their shallow character? Go for it. Ultima Online really wasn't much more than a glorified chat room, and in Anarchy Online you've got that rich storyline to play off of. You've got millions of different types of written communication possibilities at your fingertips. Use them. Because players that don't talk, just get ignored.

7. STAND OUT. Be noticeable. Enough said.
