| She stood alone on the porch of the rented country home, her arms crossed and rested on the railing in front of her, her head tilted towards the sky. Millions of stars shown overhead, and she was captivated by them. She lived in the city and because of that was never able to see the stars clearly. The tiny pin-pricks of light held her attention until the sound of laughter drifted through the barely open door and to her ears. Her thoughts switched then, from the stars in the sky to the people occupying the room just inside, five of the seven stars of the music world. She turned, looking in through the glass door at the people inside. The room was basically dark, the only light offered from the TV and what light drifted in from the kitchen down the hall. On the floor was Pia, her back rested against the couch with Justins head rested in her lap. Her fingers ran through the small amount of hair that had grown back since he had shaved it a few weeks ago. Jamie knew that Pia couldnt wait for the fro to grow back to its original state, she had loved Justins hair. From the pair on the floor Jamie looked up at the couch where Joey sat, his girlfriend and Jamies best friend April, leaning against his chest comfortably. From there her eyes wondered to Jc who sat on the other end of the couch. She didnt see Chris anywhere, and she just assumed that he had gone to get something to eat or drink. Finally her eyes came to rest on Lance. He sat alone on the recliner, his back leaned against the soft back of the chair, his arms flat on the arm rests. His head was turned towards the television, but she could see that he wasnt watching whatever it was that was on the screen. Instead his eyes seemed to be focused on something else, but nothing that was in that room with him. Even though she was outside and he was in, she could tell that his gaze seemed to be focused inward. He was thinking about something. She watched as he blinked, then turned his head to look at Jc and April. Jamie sighed and turned back to look at the stars. They didnt seem as bright now as they had moments before. Millions of stars covered the night sky, but there was only in particular that she wished would be out there with her. Yes, she had a crush on Lance. Ever since she had first been introduced to him by April, she had wanted nothing more then for him to wrap her in his arms and then kiss her. Of course, that had never happened. Nor did it seem that it ever would. For a year now she had waited, waited for some sign, some small sign, that he had felt something for her that was more then friendship. No sign had ever come. Well, as long as all he wanted from her was friendship, she would give him that. She continued to watch the stars, her heart feeling heavy in her chest. A few minutes later she listened as the door behind her slid open and then shut again. Is this a private party? Lances voice, and then he was leaning next to her on the rail. She looked at him from the corner of a brown eye as she awnsered. Well it was, but your more then welcome to join, She smiled. Party was a little dull anyhow. He chuckled, tilting his head down for a moment before turning it to look at her profile. So really, what are you doing out here? Your not avoiding us, are you? Do you not love us anymore? Were not cool enough for you now? He bumped his shoulder against hers playfully and grinned at her laughter. None of the above. She lifted her face to the sky, gazing once again at the tiny dots of light overhead. Lance also looked up, deeply inhaling at the sight of the many stars. I was just enjoying the sky. Living in the city you dont see to many night sky this beautiful. Lance nodded his agreement, not taking his eyes from the sky. Always being busy with Nsync, I dont have the time to see sky this beautiful. Nothing more was said as the two gazed up in silence, each thinking different thoughts. Jamie was having a hard time concentrating on the stars anymore, not when Lance was so near to her. From the corner of her eye she watched him watch the sky. Every once in awhile he would blink, the dark lashes coming together to reopen and revel his almost yellow eyes. She watched as he swallowed, his prominent Adams apple bobbing in his throat for a moment. He spoke. Look, a shooting star. His arm came unfolded from under him and he pointed. She looked just in time to catch it disappear from sight, and when she turned to look at him he was looking back at her. Make a wish. He ordered. I cant do that. She declined. You saw it first, so you get the wish. But I want you to have it. He pouted. She sighed, knowing that she wouldnt be able to resist when he did that. Fine. She paused. But you have to make a wish to. But thats not the way it works. He protested. Thats the way it does now. She smiled and closed her eyes before taking a deep breath, and wishing. She wished without a second thought. Wished that he would kiss her. She opened her eyes to find him watching her. What did you wish for? She asked. World peace? He smiled, but the smile seemed nervous. No. He paused. Courage. Courage? She repeated, furrowing her brow. Why courage? Courage so that I could do this. He took a deep steadying breath and then stepped forward, so that he was now standing directly in front of her. He lifted his hands and brought them to cup her face. Jamie almost thought that she was dreaming when his lips brushed against hers once, and then twice. The third time his lips covered hers, lingering for a moment before he pulled away. She opened her eyes, not even aware that she had closed them in the first place. His hands were still on her face, but he removed them when her eyes met his. Immediately she stopped him, grabbing his hand with her own. Courage. She repeated for a third time. He nodded. She smiled. Dont you want to know what I wished for? His head shook back and forth. No because if you tell me, it wont come true. She grinned bigger. Oh but it has Lance, it has. |
