| ~~High school is more a social event than an academic instituion.~~ High school is more a social event than an academic instution. This statement can be both true or false. However, while schol is a lot of socialing this is definitely learing going on. Most students during the first year of two of high school are concentrating mostly on the "social aspect" of life. However, no matter where children 14-16 are, they are only worrying about who they are going to hang out with and/or date. It's just a part of growing up. At the same time, these "teenagers" are concerned a bit about their future. They talk and socialize as well as pay attention to their schooling. They realize high school is not all fun and games. As thses students mature they begin to discover that, while life has it's fun times, without an education they are heading straight down a dead-end street. While social activities will still play a role in their everyday living, they will begin to focus their attention on the main idea of high school -- learning. It's only natural for socializing to play its part in the high school environment. Most jobs offered to people coming out of college and/or university involve being with other people. Realistically, socializing is a skill also needed and is "taught" at high school. Basically, high school is a time to learn and grow. The atmosphere of the class room as well as extra-curricular activities offered thorugh the school gives the perfect balace to develop into the ideal adult everyone wants to be. |
