There was a silence that followed, no one said anything, and the girls stopped struggling.

“Why?” X asked himself. “Why did she have to do that.” He said, he was nearing tears. Zero walked up to his old friend and put his hand on his shoulder.

“She did to redeem herself and take him down with her. She knew she wasn’t gonna survive.”

Batman walked forward. “She was a real hero. A heroine.”

The others nodded with their heads hung low. “Now then let’s untie them.” Said Sonic.

“I think they’ve been like that long enough.” Said Batman.

The girls nodded. “MMMFFFF.” They said. They had been tied up for so long, they were beginning to get used to it, they couldn’t wait to stretch.

“That won’t be happening anytime soon.” Came a voice from below.

“What?” said Luigi.

“It can’t be…” said Robin.

“Yes…” hissed Derek, as he climbed back up the castle. “She was a fool.”

“How did you…?” asked Mario.

“It will take more than a simple explosion to kill me.” Said Derek, brushing himself off.

“How dare you!” snarled X.

“Excuse me?” said Derek.

X growled, seething with uncontrollable anger.

“So is the part where you turn into a huge monster?” asked Link 3.

“I don’t do that. I rely on the ability of multiple warriors at once.”

“Enough talk.” Said Yami Yugi.

“Yeah.” Said Joey. “Yugi and I haven’t gotten a piece of the action yet.”

Derek smiled as Yami Yugi and Joey summoned their Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman and ordered an attack. Derek noticed both monsters attack, suddenly using a special technique made the monsters use their attacks on each other. The Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman turned on each other.

“What happened?” stuttered Joey.

“I don’t know!” said Yami Yugi.

The Dark Magician destroyed the Flame Swordsman. Then Derek with a might blast emitted from his hands, destroyed the Dark Magician. “All too easy.” He smirked.

Batman looked down at Robin. “Not looking too good is it?” said his partner.

“No. It isn’t.”

Batman looked at Barbara. Barbara looked down on him with sadness on her gagged face. Batman shared her sadness for it looked hopeless, but he nevertheless smiled at her.

Zero turned to Ciel, who looked down at him with her gagged face.

”I will save you Ciel. I promise.” He said.

Robin stared at up at Starfire and Raven, who both looked down upon him with their gagged faces. To him, Raven was like a sister and Starfire well there was something about her that made him feel… good.

As for Starfire, she knew what it was, she loved him.

Each Link looked up at their Zelda though since they were gagged, they couldn’t say anything they all knew how they felt. Zelda 1 was truly grateful to Link 1 for all he’d done. Zelda 2 knew that since she was the youngest there, she wasn’t old enough for such emotions, but Link 2 was something special to her. Zelda 3 fondly remembered the great feeling she had when Link 3 rescued her from Turtle Rock. Zelda 4 could recall Link 4 stepping through the fire and saving her.

Tea and Serenity looked down and they wanted their gags to come off so they could tell Yugi and Joey how much both of them meant to them. Mario and Luigi looked at the gagged Peach, they were used to saving her, though this time looked to be the last. Sonic looked up at Amy and if her gag was off she would be yelling at Sonic to get her down, but Sonic on the outside presented nothing but annoyance toward her, but deep down he cared for her.

Sighing deeply, they all turned to face Derek. Derek walked forward. “It is done then.”

Batman took out his bat-a-rang and threw it at Derek caught it, the Links fired their arrows at Derek, Derek tilted his head and dodged them all.

“Damn, this guy’s good.” Said Link 2.

Zero ran forward and slashed his saber at the villain Derek took out his own sword. Zero and Derek clashed swords; both strained to get control of the fight, for a while it seemed as though neither would relent as both continued to push. But then Derek began to get pushed back. Batman looked at Derek, he was panting.

“Looks like Samus’s explosion may have done so damage after all.”

Derek threw out his leg and kicked Zero in the chest. “Ah!” screamed Zero. Derek gave him an uppercut and sent him sprawling across the ground. Derek walked forward and held his sword at Zero’s throat.

“Goodbye Zero.” He raised it into the air.

“No!” screamed X, as he ran forward and fired shots with his buster. “You’ve already taken the life of a comrade. I will not let you kill my best friend!”

Derek stood perplexed, but laughed. “No man or robot can defeat me!” X growled as he threw a punch at Derek, but Derek grabbed his fist and then X’s throat and hoisted him into the air. X tried to get out, but Derek laid him flat and then broke him down upon his knee and then pushed him off. Link 1 ran at Derek and prepared to trust his sword into Derek’s chest.

But Derek saw the attack coming and blocked it with his own two hands. Then he grabbed Link 1’s wrists and threw him across the room. The other Links surrounded him.

“You’re not getting out of this.” Said Link 3. He charged at Derek, threw him off and then kicked Link 2 as he jumped and then sent Link 4 flying with a punch to the chest.

“Amateurs.” He said.

Mario and Luigi approached him.

“You’re not getting away.” Said Luigi.

“As of this moment.” Said Derek. “I have no intention to.”

Derek somersaulted back as Mario and Luigi tried to jump at him. The Brothers tried to kick him; Derek got them first, knocking then down.

“You’re mine!” yelled Sonic, as he spin dashed into Derek.

“Ah!” screamed Derek as he fell back. Sonic landed and tried to follow up on the attack, but Derek grabbed a hold of the nearby pole and swung around it knocking the hedgehog flat on his back.

“Alright Joey.” Said Yami Yugi. “We hit him with everything we got.”

“Yeah.” Said Joey. “That should do the trick.” Derek caught on to what they were saying and kicked both Yugi and Joey down before they could pull out a card.

“Don’t hesitate next time.” Smiled Derek.

“I won’t.” said Robin. Derek turned his head to see the Boy Wonder running towards him. With a battle cry in his throat Robin jumped at the villain. Derek rolled out of the way of the attack. Robin landed and ran after him. Robin threw a punch at Derek, but he blocked and struck the Teen Titan leader in the knee.

“Ah!” screamed Robin. Then Derek struck him in the elbow, holding his arm in pain. Robin fell to the ground. Then Derek smiled at the all fallen heroes only one remained standing.

“Now then Batman.” Said Derek. “Tell me what is it you fight for?”

“To do what’s right.” Said Batman.

Derek laughed. “How noble. But deep down, it’s a vendetta is it not?”

“Maybe.” Said Batman.

“You know. Batman, will you join me and help me conquer all dimensions?”

“That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Derek laughed. “I thought you’d say that. But think for a minute.” Derek exhaled and began to talk. “When I’m omnipotent, I’ll have the power to do anything. I can give you the thing you want most back. Your mother and father.”

Batman stood silent for a moment.

“All I ask in return is your assistance.”

“You really are mad. I wouldn’t want my mother and father back if it meant making millions of others suffer. They wouldn’t want that.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. But you had your chance.”

Batman then charged and threw his fist out at Derek; Derek tilted his head and then threw out his fist. Derek struck the Dark Knight in the chest. Batman tumbled back and attacked again. Derek blocked the fist and kicked the Dark Knight across the face. Batman was struck hard in the chest and collapsed onto the ground. Derek roared in triumph and raised his hands in the air. Robin jerked his head back up.

“That’s it? The bad guy wins?”

“Not on my watch.” Said Link 1, as he crawled forth then when he was directly behind Derek. He thrust his sword into Derek’s back.

“Ugh! Ugh!” said Derek. Link 1 pulled the sword back. Derek turned around upset with what had just happened.

“How are you…?” said Link 1, shocked and confused.

“It’s in my genes.” Said Derek.

“Move away!” yelled X as he charged his buster. Link 1 heeded his warning and jumped out of the way as X sent a mighty blast. Derek was struck in the chest. Derek fell on his back. The other heroes were now standing and began advancing towards him.

“We’ve got him right where we want him.” Said Robin.

“No!” screamed Derek. “Jack! Activate it now!”

“But sir!” shouted Jack.

“Do it you fool!”

Jack pushed a switch on the console. Suddenly a portal opened in the sky, it began growing and growing. Derek got to his feet and taunted the shocked heroes.

“You fools! This was merely the set up!”

“What… what are you talking about?” asked Sonic.

Derek jumped into the air and grabbed the rope that suspended the girls in the air.

“This battle was a warm up. Next time we fight. It will be the real deal.”

“YOU COWARD!” screamed Batman. “COME BACK AND FIGHT!”

“Oh, we will fight again. But that time, I will have so much power that you won’t even be a speck of dust to me.”

He grabbed the rope and jumped into the portal.

”MMMPPPPPHHHHH!” screamed the terrified girls.

“We will fight again! And next time, you will all die!”

“Wait for us sir!” yelled Dana, as she, Jack and the others jumped into the portal after him.

“What do we do?” asked Link 2.

“I say we follow them.” Said Sonic.

“Yeah, but where does that thing go?” asked Luigi.

“Let’s go.” Said Batman.

“Yeah, we’ll be doing the right thing.”

They all nodded and bracing themselves they jumped into the portal.

It seemed so dark; they had not known what had happened. Perhaps they were dead. But suddenly a golden light appeared and the heroes were brought back, standing inside a strange portal. Energy rings surrounded them.

“Wh-Where are we?” asked Link 1.

“Welcome heroes.” Came the form of a man. He was wearing gold all over; he held a staff in his hand. His eyes glowed green. “Welcome to your destiny.”
