Steeringwheels and pedals are fine, but you might want to connect them to your PC |
| Indeed. Joysticks connect to a PC via a 15 pins SUB-D connector. It's simply a case of connecting the right wire to the right potentiometer / switch, and you're ready. Here's how to connect everything to a 15 pin connector: |

| It's hard (like realy
hard) to get quality potentiometers. Your local
electronics shop probably sells standard pots, (just a
couple of bucks) but the really good ones (costing up to
$25) are rarely used, and therefore the average shop
won't sell them. Even if they can order good pots, there
is usualy a minimum quantity of 50 or more pieces to buy.
(which makes er. . $1250) And that's just silly. Good potentiometers are a must, because these components determine how accurate and responsive your joystick/wheel is going to be. (it also depends on the brand/speed of your computer and the gameport) In general, using 100K pots should be alright. It depends on how much you rotate them. If you only use 130 degrees of a 260 degrees 100K pot, you're actually using 50K. Either go for CONDUCTIVE PLASTIC or ultimately CERMET pots. This will improve the performance of the joystick tremenously, and although they're expensive, they live longer. SPECTROL is one such brand that makes quality potentiometers. They're very helpfull people, and you might just be able to order less than 50 from them. |
