| NEWCASTLE VS SUNDERLAND 18/11/00 |
| I didn't manage to get tickets for Sid James Park but did manage to get to the beamback, it was class! Drinking before the game in Sunderland, red and white shirts everywhere. Then it got down to serious stuff, the game. 20,000 mackems in the SOL, brilliant! The atmosphere was great! We started the match very unconvincing and this lead to them taking the lead- with us all shell shocked. However we bounced back and started playing some good stuff despite the fact that the ref was very much influenced by the toon supporters, we should have even had a penalty! She-ra played very dirty and got his just deserts later in the game. We had commentry from Barry Davis and he regularly commented on the ref's poor decisions. But regardless of this we went on to equalise from Hutchinson, the born again mackem! The SOL just erupted! It was incredible! Then these feelings were all reapeated when we got our well deserved second goal through the mighty Quinn! Towards the end of the game it looked as thought they were qoing to equalise with a penalty but thanks to the brilliant Tommy Sorenson we kept our lead! HA HA HA!!!!!!! The referee some how found 3 minutes of injury time and inteneded to use every second of them but we battled on and managed to beat them at their home ground again!!!!! The scenes in the SOL were fantastic, everyone ecstatic- the lads had done it again! We all stayed behind for a while afterwards singing anti-NUFC songs and being generally on top of the world! We headed towards the exits only to see that the highlights were on the TVs near the exits so we all stood and relived the victory untill eventually all leaving!!! The scenes in Sunderland were great to see afterwards with the Sunderland lights lit up saying "Nice one Sunderland" and the front cover of the Sunderland Echo- "Stuffed em again", everywhere you looked happy faces.. oh the joy! Needless to stay we stayed out all night celebrating! What a great day!! Ray Murray, Sunderland |
