*Nick*

After we left McDonald's, Shelby had been ignoring me. I really, really, REALLY, wanted to talk to her but everytime I'd muster up the courage I'd chicken out. I was laying on my bunk listening to music and drawing when I finally decided that I was going to do it. I pulled the long back box with the bracelet in it from my bag and put it in my pocket. As I stepped in the entertainment area, I heard Shelby's familer giggling. I could listen to it all day.

"So, you going to come clubbing with us tonight?" AJ questioned her as I say on an empty couch.

"Uh...no. Clubbing isn't really my thing," she answered glancing over at me.

"Aww! Shucks!" Brian snapped his finger.

"What about you, Nick?"

"No. Not tonight," I responded hoping they'd leave soon.

"Oh, all right! Party poopers!" AJ stuck his tounge out at us and Shleby laughed slightly.

"Oh, that's funny?"

"Kinda."

"Nick! Do something about her! She's a riot!" Brian told me.

"Hmm..." I stood up and strolled over to her. She looked up at me and I picked her up and put her over my shoulder.

"Nick! Let me down!" she begged kicking her feet.

"Easy there girly! You're gonna kick me in the balls!" I warned as I carried her to the bunks.

"Good!" Shelby spat and I monuvered her so she was laying in my arms.

"Now you can't!"

"Wanna bet?"

"No!"   She smiled up at me and my heart skipped a beat. Maybe two.

"That's what I thought," she said softly warpping her arms around my neck.  "

"Yeah, yeah!" I gently sat her down on my bunk and she put my head phones on.

"I am a loser geek, crazy, with an evil streak. Yes, I do believe there is a violent thing inside of me," she sand. Her voice was so...so beautiful. I picked up my sketch book and closed it. I didn't want her to see the picture I was drawing of her.  Shelby slipped the head phones from her ears and put them on mine.

"I'm going to go watch t.v." She climbed off the bunk and disappeared down the hallway. I sighed as I felt the bus stop.

"Bye, guys!" the guys yelled and I heard a clap of thunder and rain pouring on the bus.

"Bye!" I yelled back and took the bracelet from my pocket. I opened the lid and ran my finger over it. I wanted so much to be holding Shelby then. All the sudden I stood up and shoved the piece of jewlery back in my pocket beofre walking to where she was. When I walked into the room, she was watching t.v. on the couch with her feet on the coffee table.

"Hey Shelby, can I talk to you?" I asked her nervously as I say on the opposite end of the couch.

"Are you mad at me?" I asked bluntly.

"Honestly?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"Yes, I am...was. Uh..." she stuttered looking down at her hands.

"I know I broke my promise , but I seriously didn't have the time. We were always on the run. Not once did I have time to pick up a pen!" I told her.

"So, you didn't have time to call?" she asked snottily crossing her arms.

"Well...uh...n...no." I glanced at her and saw tears shimmering in her eyes.

"You expect me to believe that? Nick, I wouldn't have cared if we only talked for a minute or an hour!" she started to cry and my heart was breaking again like the night I left her.

"I just wanted to hear your voice!"

"I'm so sorry! I really am! Can't you see that?"

"I see all the guilt, yes, but now and I supposed to trust you?"

"Just believe me! I'm not lying to you and I never have or will!" I pleaded with her scooting closer to her.

"People change! Look at me! I've changed!"

"Physically, yeah." I took th ebox from my pocket and opened it. "I got this for you."

"I don't want it!" she screamed and ran out of the bus and int the pouring rain. I ran after her, trying to catch up to her. I grabbed her arm and she swung around glaring at me.

"Don't touch me!" she screamed jerking her arm from my grasp. I held her shoulders and she tried to wiggle free but my grip was too tight.

"Shelby listen to me!" I begged.

"Why should I? You hurt me! What am I to you now?
NOTHING!" Shelby yelled at me as hundreds of rain droplets soaked us.

"You're still my best friend, Shelby. Can't you see that?" I looked into her eyes and she turned her head.

"No, you don't think that," she murmered shivering.

"Yes, yes, Shel, I do. You don't know how many nights I stayed awake thinking of you. Wondering if you hated me. I thought about you everyday and every night. I was empty without my best friend," I explained to her and she slowly looked up at me before collasping in my arms sobbing. She was shaking from the cold and the raking sobs. I tightened my grasp around her and cradled her head to my chest. Ten minutes went by before she pulled away from me and wipped her eyes.

"I'm sorry. You're forgiven," Shelby apologized softly.

"It's okay. Lets go inside before we both catch colds." I took her hand and we quickly strolled back to the bus
