| Pink Coreopsis By Chelsea Archibald | ||||||
| What is Pink coreopsis? Pink Coreopsis is a plant (herb) which looks like a daisy but with pink petals and a yellow center. The flower blooms from July to mid- Septemeber. It is found in only one place in Canada southwestern Nova Scotia, and is found at several places in the U.S. They only grow on gently sloping, sandy or stony shores of lakes, which is why the plant is found in so few places. Why is this plant endangered? Since Pink Coreopsis requires such a specific habitat, it is limited in where it can grow, and when this habitat is damaged by human activities, even fewer plants grow. The plant is so rare in Canada that is endangered. The development of homes and cottages along lakes; the use of ATVs, and the construction of dams and wharves all damage the habitat where Pink Coreopsis can grow. By learning more about this plant and protecting the few that remain, we can hopefully save this flower from becoming extinct!
