| What is the Atlantic Whitefish? This is a salmon like fish with a dark colored back with a white underbelly and silver sides. This fish can be found in the sea or in lakes. They eat anything from flying insects to small fish. These fish have well developed teeth good for eating with and for protection. These fish have their babies in rivers but live in the ocean. This fish is only found in the waters around Canada (specifically Nova Scotia). Why are Atlantic Whitefish endangered? Atlantic white need to be able to swim up rivers to have their babies so they construction of dams has made this more difficult for the fish and can cause them to have less babies. The introduction of new fish species has caused problems for the fish because this means they have new predators or more competition for food. |
