Same Character Play 
At the Title screen, when Start and Options are on the screen, press DOWN, DOWN, 
UP, UP RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. Then hold the L and R buttons for twin 
fighters. If everything was done correctly, the background will turn blue.
