Amatuer Radio Emergency Service
ARES
Have you ever wondered who takes over communications when your phone goes dead, can't use your cell phone,  and no internet?  "Oh my God! The world is coming to an end."  No, not really.  During times of natural and man- made disastors, Ham Operators help local, state, and federal workers with the welfare of the effected people.  During the Cold War Days,  Hams were ready for a nuclear attack.

Today, we are helping with the fight against terrorism and natural disastors.  One of the things we do locally is
Storm Spotting.  If you have a police scanner and know the local repeaters.  Add them in during a storm watch and warning.  We are out in the field reporting back what we see.  This information is passed to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.  They use this information along with radar to give out warnings and watches.
