Init file Backupper for the Nokia 9110(i) Communicator
(First Version)
________________________________________________________________

First: the usual disclaimers apply: this is mainly
'use at your own risk' and 'no liability whatsoever'...
________________________________________________________________
Why this program?
- If you have had to 'reinstate the state files' by pressing the
right key combination while pushing in the battery, then you know:
the N9110 reinstates the original b:\nokia\GEOS.INI, which is the
N9110's 'registry'. So the trick is to make a copy of this file
BEFORE anything goes wrong, so it can be copied back in case of trouble!
________________________________________________________________

How does it work?
- Two ways: if you have a MMC (Memory Card) use the MMC way! Because
a format of the N9110 deletes the Local copy! So:

1) you can make a local copy (Backup Local) which copies the file to
b:\nokia\USERDATA\BACKUP\GEOS.BKP. This can then be restored with
Restore Local.

2) you can make a copy to your MMC (Backup MMC) which copies the file to
a:\nokia\GEOS.BKP. This can then be restored with Restore MMC.
If you have moved ALL your stuff to the MMC, including OwnTexts,
Calendar etc (see http://www.yaws.dk or http://n9k.ats.pl), then
formatting your N9110 (e.g. to get the system updated at Nokia)
is not a big disaster if you got a Backup of GEOS.INI on your MMC !

(An insight here: Restore actually renames the systems own backup
b:\nokia\PRIVDATA\INI.BAK to INI.OLD, copies the copy you made to
INI.BAK and uses the internal restore command to reinstate the file
to GEOS.INI.)

After a Restore, you must update the system by rebooting by removing
the battery.

Troubleshooting:

'I can backup, but not restore...'
Try copying the file back using DOS, see http://www.dchapman.com for
details on how to run DOS on the N9110!

'I restored a backup, it said 'Restore OK', but it doesn't seem to work'
Have you pulled the battery to reboot? This must be done after a Restore!
Otherwise the Init File is not updated: the Init File Editor will show
no values for the keys in GEOS.INI.
