Alright, here it is ... the long-awaited, much talked-about, largely procrastinated picture posting from the Schatzer-VanVliet 2002 Firecracker Open!
The event takes place anually surrounding the 4th of July holiday festivities in a little paridise on earth called "Bellaire". The two families (and their "significant others") in recent years have spent a great deal of time at their vacation homes nestled in the woods at the base of Schuss Mountain in Michigan's Antrim County (that's northeast of Traverse City, about a 40 minute drive). Though I was familiar with the general area, I had not been able to spend much time there prior to meeting Amy. My mom and dad rented a house near the mouth of the Clam River a couple years ago, and I had come to appreciate the beauty of the area and favorite attractions, but not nearly as much as I do now after spending so much time there. By the way, no burger on the planet can beat the ones consumed with a beer while relaxing at the Dockside on the east side of Torch Lake at the mouth of the Clam. That, my friends, defines inner peace.
So, being Amy's significant other (besides Natalie, of course), I was privileged to be a part of this year's event. Golf clubs in hand, 14 of us hit the Pinebrook Golf Club, one of the very finest courses in the area. The US Open in 1995 was hosted not by Pinebrook, but by some other golf course in the United States.
