I wrote this on Wednesday, October 25, 2000. I was starting to write a song for my band and it just turned out like this. I go to a small school where a lot of have gone our whole lives (including me). I dedicate this to the senior class of 2001, especially the ones that have gone to Triad since kindergarten.
the days are winding down
until we'll go our own way
our final moments we make
our friends we try not to betray
we find ourselves growing closer
after all these years of fighting
we tend to let things slide now
to avoid confrontation and back-biting
we've grown up like brothers and sisters
helping and hurting along the way
we've drifted apart and come back
to this very day
we said things we didn't mean
and done things that we shouldn't
be we've been there for eachother
and never forced anything we wouldn't
we try to become better friends
and create good memories that last
and hope that all the bad times
will be left in the past
popularity is booming
since this is our last year
but the more we find we're popular
the less we really care
we spend time with many people
even after school
try expand our circle of friends
because that is how you're cool
social groups diminish
and we just become one
a group of friends who have laughed and cried
our time is almost done
we'll go off to work
or maybe go to college
to start a family
or gain a scad of knowledge
we know we'll stay in touch
for atleast a little while
but what about when the first few feet
turns into hundreds of miles
it's possible we'll pass eachother
and give a friendly welcome
and we'll tell our stories to our families
and fill their lives with boredom
some of us may become rich and famous
and live lives full of wealth
others may struggle to survive
and even fight for their health
we will come to our reunions
i know that i'll be there
some of the women pregnant
the guys may not have hair
we'll meet for a day or so
and memories we'll share
but then we part and live our lives
as if we never cared
we'll look through old yearbooks
and photos of our friends
but don't tell tell me graduation
is going to be the end.
