FCC Rules       Element T-1
The Technician No Code Bands

When you pass your FCC No Code exam, you will be authorized to operate on all Amateur Frequencies above 30 Megahertz (Mhz).   These bands are known as the VHF and UHF bands.

VHF and UHF refers to
Very High Frequency and Ultra High Frequency.  We measure frequency in Hertz (Hz).  However in the VHF and UHF areas the frequency is measured in  Megahertz (Mhz).

We also refer to the wavelength.  This means just what it says..the length of the wave.  We measure wavelegths in meters.  If you look on the chart below you will notice that the frequencies from 144.0 Mhz up to 148.0 Mhz are shown in the 2 Meter Band.  This means that the length of these radio waves are about 2 meters. We refer to the grouping of frequencies in a particular region of our allowed spectrum as a band. So now we know that a frequency in the area of 144.0 Mhz is located in the 2 meter band.

                     Technician No-Code Frequency Allotments
Frequency in Megahertz (Mhz)                                           Wavelenth in meters
50.0MHz_______________________54.0MHz                                           6 Meter Band VHF

144.0MHz_____________________148.0MHz                                           2 Meter Band VHF

222.0MHz_____________________225.0MHz                                           1.25 Meter Band VHF

420.0MHz_____________________450.0MHz                                           70 centimeter Band UHF

902MHz________________________928MHz                                           33 centimeter Band UHF

1240MHz______________________1300MHz                                           23 centimeter Band UHF

2300~2310MHz____________2390~2450MHz                                          13 centimeter Band UHF
Notice that the 13 centimeter band shown above is split into two segments
Additional HF Bands for Technician Class with Morse Code Endorsement
3675kHz_____________________3750kHz                                          80 Meter Band HF

7.1MHz______________________7.150MHz                                        40 Meter Band HF

21.100MHz__________________21.200MHz                                        15 Meter Band HF

28.100MHz__________________28.500MHz                                        10 Meter Band HF
Memorize all the above frequencies, even if you do not plan on operating as a Technician with Morse Code Endorsement....they will appear on your exam.
Review
Study and learn all of the above frequencies and bands... be careful, the frequencies will be changed slightly on the exam to throw you off!
