| The Technician No Code Bands When you pass your FCC No Code exam, you will be authorized to operate on all Amateur Frequencies above 30 Megahertz (Mhz). These bands are known as the VHF and UHF bands. VHF and UHF refers to Very High Frequency and Ultra High Frequency. We measure frequency in Hertz (Hz). However in the VHF and UHF areas the frequency is measured in Megahertz (Mhz). We also refer to the wavelength. This means just what it says..the length of the wave. We measure wavelegths in meters. If you look on the chart below you will notice that the frequencies from 144.0 Mhz up to 148.0 Mhz are shown in the 2 Meter Band. This means that the length of these radio waves are about 2 meters. We refer to the grouping of frequencies in a particular region of our allowed spectrum as a band. So now we know that a frequency in the area of 144.0 Mhz is located in the 2 meter band. |
