Koalas and Kangaroos and Wallabys, Oh My!

Saturday was Developers' Day at the Conference, and I wanted to see Ted Nelson's speech at the end of the day. So I prepared for his talk by taking M/V Miramar out to Lone Pine Koala Reserve. The boat trip took a bit over an hour each way, up and down the Brisbane River -- very pleasant, but I was glad I'd slathered myself up with sunscreen first.

The highlight of the Koala Reserve was having my picture taken holding a koala, but it was also fun to wander around the area seeing other unusual wildlife, like emus, wallabys, and wombats. Lone Pine isn't just a tourist trap -- local families visit too.

After returning from Lone Pine, I hiked over the bridge to the last session of the conference, then went to dinner at the famous Breakfast Creek Hotel for a good steak and appropriate potables. The Brekkie (as it's known locally) was the first restaurant I've visited in Australia which had a dress code: "Minimum Dress: T-Shirt, Shorts, and Thongs", and I didn't see anyone there who didn't comply.

After dinner, I probably should have used the extremely elegant gym in my hotel, but I didn't; I visited the Casino to use the ATM, and then I went to bed.
