Preparation, Preparation, Preparation

It has been a long road...but finally I am staring face to face with my childhood dreams......dreams of flight.

Ever since childhood I have had a passion for flying. It started as a young boy dreaming about flying like most 5-year olds. And the dreams became more and more real until one early morning I jumped out of bed, ran to the balcony and leaped off as high as I could reach up in the sky with my hands in the air. I think you get the picture - a rude awakening and reunion with planet Earth!

Ever since that morning my life has been a journey...a journey to find freedom from the 2-D world we live in.  Over the years I have dedicated much of my time and resources to aviation and the space program.  It has been a long journey but I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to become a glider pilot, sky diver, and an instrument rated pilot.

A new chapter has begun as I finally embark on an adventure to fly from North America to Europe via the northern scenic route.  The flight will begin on August 12, 2007 as the Columbia 300 (N6511Y) will make her way up to Canada, over to Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, England, with a hop over the English Channel, to France and finally Switzerland.  Preparations are already underway.  The trill of the journey keeps me up at night preparing...preparing for every eventuality.  Everything that can go right and everything that can go wrong.  Life raft, emergency supplies, aeronautical charts, flight planning, Garmin and Jeppensen data downloads, and of course cameras.  Cameras to capture the beauty of our planet and to share the photos with you on this site.

There is a saying in German.....anticipation of a journey is sometimes as powerful as the journey itself!  A journey that I will share with you through this Blog.
