MY EXPERIENCE IN THE SMASH BROS. TOURNAMENT LEAGUE

This is a step-by-step commentary of the Super Smash Bros. Tournament, which was held in August 2001. I took part in it, along with twenty-one other N64 players, including Brandon Eberly. Actually, I knew no-one but Brandon when we started. I put together this report so that Iacopo Sorce, (maintainer of the N64 Hi-Scores page), could post it up for others to read.

First off, I'll explain the system: KO's - TKO = score. This is automatically calculated by the game for timed games, but for stock the same rule applies, so we did that manually. All parameters which were not specified were to remain unchanged, (to avoid infringement). We each chose and specified a character. I chose Fox, Brandon chose Luigi. Donkey Kong was the most used character in the tourney. Strangely enough, no-one chose Mario as their character.

1. We must use the same character throughout the entire tournament.
2. We must submit results within 36 hours after the challenge is given. If not, 3 points were deducted from total.
3. We must do exactly what the challenge said to do.
4. We mustn't change any settings unless we were told to.
5. We couldn't use any cheating devices, (eg, Gameshark, X-Plorer, Action Replay, etc.).
6. We absolutely mustn't cheat. If found, we would be taken out, and banned from any future tourneys.

Round One:-

Time:

3 Minutes

Teams:

You Vs. Mario / Luigi

CPU:

Level 6 Difficulty

Arena:

Mushroom Kingdom

Items:

All / Medium

Here are the results for the first challenge. I got 13 points, Brandon 8, Winners tied for 19 points:

Mario 64 Master, Graveler22: Tie 1st
Andrew Kent: 7th
Brandon Eberly: Tie 12th

Okay, so we didn't do so hot in the first round. I was pretty confident about the second.

Round Two:-

Stock: 15 Lives Each
Teams: You Vs. C. Falcon
CPU: Level 8 Difficulty
Arena: Saffron City
Items: None / Never

No items?!? Well, there went all my confidence! I could play without items, but hardly against a Level 8 CPU! Here are the results for the second challenge. I got 6 points, Brandon 13, Winners tied for 15 points.

Geno, Tyler F, MumboJumboMan, FoxZ, Mitey, MojoJojo, Kagin The Crazed, Graveler22: Tie 1st
Andrew Kent: 19th!?
Brandon Eberly: Tie 12th!?

Wow, was I awful or what? The 8-Way Tie didn't help either ... I did manage 11 after the deadline, but of course it didn't count. On to the third round. Brandon is coming equal 11th overall, I am equal 14th. Shakey...
